League Rules

All players and officials participate at their own assumed risk.

All games follow standard USA Hockey on-ice rules prior to USAH rule changes made for 2021.

The following are highlighted points that most new players ask about:

Rosters: Ten skaters and one goalie

- Teams are permitted a maximum of ten skaters and a goalie for each game. Dressing more than ten or less than five skaters will result in a forfeit. In the event a goalie is late, or does not dress, the game will be played 6-on-5 with an empty net.

Gameplay

*Obtainable pass rules for icing

*The WNH league uses hybrid icing, while the BBHL uses automatic icing

*Touch up offsides

*Waste high wind-ups on slap shots (violation results in stoppage and d-zone faceoff)

*No whistle on two line passes

*Diving and embellishment will be called

*Best of three shootout for tied games in the WNH (any player that is subbing or has a penalty at the end of regulation is ineligible to shoot in the shootout)

Timekeeping: WNH will use a running clock with stop time
1st & 2nd Period (Final 30 Seconds)
3rd Period (Final minute if game is tied or within 1 goal*)
*For playoff games, this becomes a 2 goal spread for stop time

*Any player that receives a game misconduct shall serve an automatic one game suspension unless informed otherwise by the commissioner. All major penalties are subject to review for additional discipline.

WNH Playoff Format:
Round Robin (6 Games) followed by re-seeding for the final week matchups:
1v2, 3v4, 5v6 (Seed 7 does not play an additional game)

Overtime:
Round Robin games will go to a shootout (see shootout rules above)
The Championship game will go to a 5-Minute (running clock) 5-on-5 overtime, followed by a shootout if necessary.

Rosters:

Only rostered skaters are eligible to play in playoff games. Only exception is that teams may sub to a total of 9 skaters if multiple rostered players are out. Goalie subs are also permitted.

Teams may not use subs that materially change the nature of the game/matchup (ringer rule). If a team has question regarding a sub's eligibility they can be directed to the commissioner prior to the game. Violation of playoff sub rules will result in a forfeit of the game.
