Cobra CFC Insider: Week 4
Denver Titans 16
Colorado Cobras 11

In the CFC Game of The Week the Colorado Cobras (2-2) came up a little short at home and fell 16-11 to the Denver Titans (1-3). In a very entertaining – clean  football game –  special teams were the difference as Titan DB Travis Nelson set-up all 16 of the Titans points with 3 huge kick-returns (the second of which went all the way to the house). The Cobra offense (which statistically out-gained the Titans by a decent margin) took a hit in the second quarter when starting QB Romail Gordon went down with a knee injury – but back-up QB Donyeil Moore came off the bench to lead the Cobras on their only touchdown drive, when he hooked up with WR Jesse Preston for a second-quarter TD pass. Moore continued to lead long-drives in the second half (showing a great deal of composure under the circumstances) but the red-zone defense of the Titans found a way to bend, but not break, and never allowed a play to go the distance. With a little under 3 minutes left the Cobras marched to within 10 yards of a game-winning score – but a holding call – followed 2 plays later by a botched shotgun snap put the Cobras out of scoring range, and on fourth and goal, from near mid-field, they turned the ball over for the last time. The Titans then ran out the clock to secure their first win of the year. With all the emotions of a rivalry game, both teams were able to play with class – representing their teams and their fan bases well – and perhaps proved to league officials that neither team deserves the reputations they’ve been handed, in the early-going of the 2008 season. Next up: Practice July 2 - and Bye Week.
