Congratulations to Crusader forward Robert Hintz for being selected to the Chicago Showcase 2009 Spring team!!

    Althoff Wins MVCHA 2A Title

Althoff  defeats Granite City 3-2 to win game 2 and sweep the series of the MVCHA championship finals.

The four Althoff seniors ended their careers by leading the Crusaders to a shootout victory over Granite City 3-2 to capture the MVCHA 2A Title. Tri-Captains Chris Breunig, Connor Cox, and Jony Riel, along with goaltender AJ Berreman all made significant contributions in the championship win. Breunig had a goal and an assist in regulation along with a goal in the shootout. Cox scored a goal in regulation and in the shootout. Riel added an assist and played a solid game on defense. Berreman stopped 16 of 18 shots in regulation, including a penalty shot, and 2 of 3 shots in the shootout to seal the win. Others recording points were Kyle Chatham and Eric Davis, each added an assist.

With the victory Althoff finished the post season with a perfect 6-0-0 record, sweeping Belleville West, Belleville East, and Granite City. Unselfish play and a "team first" attitude was a key to the Crusaders championship run. Robert Hintz was an unsung hero throughout the playoffs. Hintz moved from his regular right-wing position to defense and was a major reason the Crusaders only gave up 11 goals in the 6 playoff games. Eric Davis was another player that stepped up when called upon. He filled in as goalie against Belleville East, allowing only 1 goal in Althoff's 5-1 victory to eliminate East.

The championship was Althoff's second in the past three years.
