Welcome

Welcome to the Newmarket Jets Speed Skating Club’s official website.  We hope you find it interesting and informative.  The site will be updated regularly with information on club skating, special events, records and achievements of our competitive skaters and general information about the club and its members.  We also have links to the Ontario Speed Skating Association and to other clubs.  Our generous sponsors are listed, and our store may have some good used equipment for sale or you can also link to the OSSA source store for everything you need to become a speed skater.  You can hear from some of our young skaters and see some of the competition action in our video section.

We welcome interested parties from the ages of six to sixty who have some experience in any type of skating to come out to our club nights and try speed skating with us at no charge and, if you like it, you can join in on the fun. The club is not a learn to skate program for first time skaters, however, we do have beginning speed skaters, through intermediates, and high speed competitors to masters. The club has a limited selection of speed skates that are available on a first come first served basis when you come out to try it. There is a ceiling to our membership capacity so come on out and sign up early.

New skaters need to bring a helmet, gloves, a neck guard, and shin pads when they come out to try speed skating (see the equipment page for more details).

Speed skating is a great, fun, family sport and our Canadian Short track, and Long track winter Olympians continue to win more medals at international competitions than any other winter sport discipline, so come on out and see what all the excitement is about.

Club Philosophy

We hope to provide consistent knowledgeable coaching and guidance to all our members, first time skaters and intermediates through elite level and masters,so that they can achieve their goals in this sport. Our pledge is to provide a safe, fun, family environment at the club to all its members regardless of their ability and skill level. Our goal is to encourage members in learning the sport of speed skating for overall physical fitness, and for those members to achieve their personal goals whether they are recreational skaters or serious competitors.

We further agree to run the club under the guidance of the Ontario Speed Skating Associations authority and its rules of conduct.
