Ridge Red Devils Finish Busy Weekend
Basking Ridge, NJ 7/13/2009 - Despite cooler temps than normal the last five days the Ridge Red Devils heated up the summer circuit by going 10-3 over a four day period that saw them travel from PA to P-Way to find top comp.
Summer is the time to work on your game and the entire Ridge program participated over the week-end with five teams and 40 players from rising frosh to returning varsity taking part in the Rutgers team camp.
Special thanks goes out to all the coaches, players and parents who helped make it a success.
Camp Note: Ridges' Primetime opponent, Penn Wood, lost in the final of the National Division 59-51 to Gonzaga Prep(DC) out at HoopGroup's Team challenge. St Pat's (Eliz) came in 3rd. (see NorthstarBball's blog below)
The last game that I watched was also the final game of camp. Gonzaga (DC) squared off with Penn Wood (PA) in the National Division title tilt. Gonzaga featured Duke-bound Tyler Thornton ’10 ...Penn Wood was very reliant on Aaron Brown ’11, who played as well today as I’ve ever seen him, as well as William Brown ’10 and Zaahir Allen ’10, for both of whom the same can be said. Shawn Oakman ’11 was good, but not great, and Penn Wood just did not have enough firepower...When it was all said and done, Gonzaga had won the championship 59-51....Aaron Brown dropped 21 and William Brown had 11 for Penn Wood. - Alex Schwartz @ northstarbball.com
Latest 2009-2010 Schedule News:
Breaking News: Ridge @ Seton Hall Prep Tuesday, Feb.16th!
The annual Len Sepanak Holiday Tournament, a staple for area hoop fans for years now, is taking shape with Bloomfield Tech, Irvington and now Rutgers Prep agreeing to participate in the 2009-2010 edition. Also, there's a good chance that Gill, Immaculata and Colonia may join to round it out. Stay tuned!
The much anticipated Ridge Red Devils season opener will be on the road, Friday Dec. 18th 7pm at Warren Hills. Their first home game is on Tues Dec 22nd when the Bridge- water Panthers, a new team on the schedule, pay a visit to the Somerset Hills for the first time. In addition to the Primetime Shootout at the RAC in the middle of Febuary, the Red Devils will play Sun Dec 20th in the Hoop Group Tip- Off Classic at Seton Hall vs an opponent still to be determined. Also, Ridge will play in the Dan Finn Classic Sat Jan 16th at the Armory vs Academy New Church at 4:30pm.
Then on Sat Jan 23rd No2Gr4 perennial power Elizabeth will be the opponent after Ridge accepted an invite to the the annual Coalition for the HomelessTournament at the Dunn Center in Elizabeth.
After 5 years Ridge's Skyland cross-over games will change. No longer are familiar foes, Montgomery, Immaculata and Franklin on the schedule but instead Bridgewater, Hillsboro & Watchung will take their place. That's because this will be the last year teams are configured in the Delaware West division as they had been since the league's inception. Starting next year smaller schools like Voorhees and Warren Hills will be replaced.
fyi: This year's SCT semifinals will be back at Montgomery High and the finals will be played at Franklin High.
