Skipper's Notes: June 28 2009

Our boys had a pretty good week. Taking wins in contests Vs MWC, Okmulgee, and Brassfield in three consecutive days. The only down point was the double header Vs the Moore Shockers. The guys were tired and just could not pull out the wins.

We are heading into a tournament week. Our games Monday Vs Norman North and Wednesday Vs MWC are canceled. We are still going to Lawton on Tuesday for a double header at 6pm. We will leave OCU at 3pm.

We will be leaving for Hays, Kansas Friday morning at 5am sharp. We open up against the Topeka Blue Jays at 2pm that day. Saturday we play the Great Bend Chiefs at 2pm and the Wichita Red Sox at 6pm. The Championship round begins Sunday, game times are TBA.

Players still needing to turn in money for the Kansas trip should do so ASAP. I will be posting hotel info in next few days.

We should fair pretty well if we continue to play like we have this season.

Wish us luck and I will see you all out at the ballpark.

Johnny

Skipper's Notes: June 18 2009

We are just about half way through our season and things are looking great for our program. We are off to 13-4 start, no Ruf-Nek team has had such a fantastic beginning to the season!

Last night we pulled off a come from behind, nail biter, in a 11-10 extra innings win over Brassfield. Both teams played hard but our boys came out on top. We stayed under control in a crazy situation and we really deserved the win.

We are home tonight versus the Okmulgee Majors in a 7pm 9 inning contest. If we play well we should be successful.

See you all out at the park.
Johnny

The Oklahoma City Ruf-Neks are the 2009 Bo Rainey Memorial Tournament Champions!

The guys had a solid weekend of baseball, endng 3 of the 4 games we played this outing in a run-rule. The bats have really come alive and our pitchers are shutting teams down. The boys really did well this weekend and really showed they can win when it counts.

This is a big week for us. We have Brassfield Wednesday, Okmulgee Thursday and Stillwater on Friday. All three of these teams should prove the be good tests for us and I know we can do well.

I will see everyone out at the ball park and I would like to thank the players for giving me my first tournament title as a coach.

Thanks
Johnny

Skipper's Notes: May 26 2009

In a little more than 24 hours we will take the field in our first game of the summer, I will settle for nothing less than victory. I am very honored to be coaching this team this year and I will do everything I can to make this program a success. Each and every one of our players has something to contribute to this team. We have a nice balance of speed and power at the plate. Our defense should be rock solid and with the pitchers we have high scores from our opponents should be few and far between. We have the tools to be successful. This is going to be a season to remember, I am sure of it!

This summer I am dedicating this season to my amazing and loving mother who suddenly passed away earlier this spring. I miss her dearly, not only as my mother but as my coach in life. She has been a part of every baseball team I have ever been a part of. From little league on, she was right there as my biggest fan and always made sure I was taken care of. She ran the day to day operations of this team. On road trips she did all of our laundry making sure we had clean uniforms to play in. Last year she worked in our concession stand at every home game and even though it kept her from watching the game she loved so much she did it with a smile and a laugh. She was the hardest working woman in baseball and now she will finally get to take a rest and watch us play.

During the school season before every game I take time to tell her how much I miss her and love her. I also ask her to help me like she always has. To make sure all goes right and make sure my guys play well in the game at hand. My mother always enjoyed a win but she loved me even if I lost. She is our biggest fan and she will make sure we are taken care of this year. She will be watching every swing and every hit, every throw and every catch. She will be right there, sitting with God cheering on her Sonny Boy and his Ruf-Neks.

May God bless you all and our season.
