2018/2019 Beavers

Repeating as SEMHL Champions is something that every team aspires to do and this year's Beaver squad was no different.  Encouraging that thought was the fact the All Star goalie Steve Christie was no longer an import after playing 5 years for Carman. That brought their import allowance back to two. With the departure of Dman Butland, Austin Douglas came on board while up front Jake Dudar would soon show his value as well. Of course the club still had dependable local forwards like Lewadnuik, Owen & Vanderveen along with the O'Brien boys on D.

The team started out of the gate with 5 straight wins and a hold of 2nd spot behind Portage. But soon dropped 3 in a row but as of mid December, Lewy was 1st in the league points, Mark tied for goals, Dudar right in the mix  and Steve posting a 1.87 GAA. The Beavers ended 2018 with a win over Altona then carried that momentum into 2019 winning 4 straight and a 10-4 record. Portage still held 1st with a 10-3-1. After posting 2 victories over the Islanders, Carman earned first spot by the end of January and held onto it until seasons end. That got them a first round bye while the other 6 teams fight it out.

The SEMHL handed out awards prior to playoffs which saw Steve and Dudar named to first All Star teams. Making the 2nd team were Lewy, Mark and Mitch. Of course the presentation of the SEMHL Bob Hamm Trophy for first was made as well Steve was awarded the Appelt's Trophy as Top Goalie.

Once the smoke cleared from the quarter finals, the Beavs would face the Morden Redskins who finished 4th. They promptly lost 3 in a row showing rust from 10 days waiting for playoff games. They found their mojo however and won the next 2 for narrow the Morden lead 3 games to 2. Could they tie the series? Nope the 6-5 hard fought loss in Morden ended their run at back to back championships.
