Arlington Flame Experience Pre-Season Tournament Success Under the direction of their new coach, David Madlin, the Flame earned two second place finishes in back-to-back preseason tournaments while trying new field positions and formations. In the Dulles National Soccer Tournament, August 29-30, the Flame played in the top bracket and swept their competition through the semi-final, with a collective 7 goals for, and only one goal against. The Championship game was played against the Northern Steel, a highly competitive team from Pennsylvania. Although the match was tied 0-0 at halftime, the Northern Steel ended with the win. In the PWSI Toys for Tots Tournament, September 5-6, the Flame again played in the top bracket and swept their competition through the semi final, with a collective 9 goals for, and three goals against. The Flame faced PWSI Courage Red '96 in a re-match in the Championship game, but lost 2-1 to take the second place medal. |
