2009 Virginia State Cup
Arlington Venom down Beach FC Fire, 2-0
November 9, 2009 Richmond, VA - The Arlington Venom won the Under-17 battle between northern and southern Virginia on Sunday in Richmond with a decisive 2-0 win in the 2009 VYSA State Cup Final. After a first half of scoreless, high-paced soccer, Arlington converted a penalty early in the second half, before sealing the match with brilliant individual effort off a turnover around the 60th minute. Strong goalkeeping and work rate thwarted the all out attack by Beach FC in the latter stages.
The match signaled the close of an impressive run by both teams, who dominated their competition in route the final in front of an impressive crowd at Striker Park Stadium.
