ABINGTON BEATS MALVEN IN OT THRILLER
In the final battle of a long day and this extended fall season, Abington battled back from as many as 5 goals down in the second half to defeat last years' BTL Fall League champs Malvern Prep.  Malvern looked like they had the repeat locked up.  But in a true display of showing why you don't give up after a slow first half, Abington spent the entire second half whittling away at their 7-3 halftime deficit and with 1 second remaining in regulation Joey Jones tied the game at 9 - 9.  Jones would have an incredible 7 goals in this contest making the choice for championship game MVP an easy one.  After Malvern secured the OT faceoff, an errant pass gave Abington the ball back.  Rich Rambo bulled down the right side drawing the early double as he had all day and fed the crease for what would turn out to be the goal that would make Abington the 2009 Ortale Trophy winners.

Fall Tourney Champ will be awarded the 2nd Annual Peter K. Ortale Trophy.
Pete was tragically taken on September 11th, 2001.  A warrior poet in the truest sense.  He was a 2 time High School All American midfielder who captained Penn Charter's 1983 state championship team.  He also was the captain of Duke University's lacrosse team when you could count on one hand the number of lacrosse players from PA playing Division 1 lacrosse.  He was the ultimate team player before there were travel teams and Inside Lacrosse recruit ranking lists.  He embodied what this league's mission seeks to reinforce; commitment to your high school team and teammates.
