# # # # Weekly Team Update (February 1, 2010)
The Spirits have been working hard the past six weeks in all kinds of weather – rain, snow, high winds and sunshine. The coaches are impressed with the improvements that the student/athletes have made.
Today, Monday February 1st, we move to the next phase in conditioning for the season. Our first meet – the Herb Wyre Invitational is a month away (Saturday, March 6) and we are getting excited.
There are some additions to the coaching staff this year – first year coach Betty Behen along with first year coach Mike Mann. They will be working together providing instruction for the jumping events. Betty is teacher here at Paraclete. Mike teaches at Del Sur and has a freshman daughter, Shelby, on the Spirits team.
Last season the team motto was DESIRE. The 2009 Spirits lived up to that motto as each student/athlete trained, worked and performed to their very best of his/her ability. This year brings a new motto. This motto incorporates the word Spirits – the Paraclete athletic teams’ name – into an acronym:
S peed
P ower
I ntegrity
R esponsibility
I mproves
T eam
S uccess
Each of this season’s Spirits track team members, unified as a team, will work as hard as they can to live up to the meaning of the 2010 motto – SPIRITS.

High Desert Track & Field Club All Comers Track Meet – Saturday, February 20
High Desert Track & Field Club is sponsoring an all-comers meet at Antelope Valley High School on Saturday, Feb. 20th.
The meet will start at 9 a.m. The running events will follow the HS schedule. We will also be offering Long, Triple and High Jump. (I am unsure still about Pole Vault and Shot Put)
Cost will be $5 per athlete. We are limiting athletes to 4 events (3 + 1 relay, 2 + 2 relays, or 4 individual) to prevent early season injuries and make the meet as efficient as possible.
A flyer will be sent next week with all of the details. High Desert Heat will be providing an automated timing system so all athletes will get their times and marks.
Have a great day and look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.

2010 Michelle Perry Invitational Saturday, April 3 - Quartz Hill High School
Michelle Perry Invitational planning meetings are fully under way and sign-ups of helpers are still being taken. There are newly formed committees, including one to help raise money to offset the cost of putting on this event.
If you are interested in helping in any way please email Coach McGuire (rmcguire@paracletehs.org) or call his office (661) 943-3255, Ext: 438) and he will forward your information to the appropriate chairperson.
There are 11 schools committed to the event so far this year (February 1) which means we are almost half way to the number who came last year with two months remaining until the entry deadline (Midnight, March 30).
