Welcome to the home of the 2 time Champion College Point ClippersThe team was established in 2004 by College Point's legendary Little League Coach Jerry Castro and current GM Angelo Manniello. The team was known as the College Point Rangers. The team went 11-1 that season and shared the Zone Baseball League Championship with the Gotham City Athletics. The remaining original Rangers are Angelo Manniello, Matt Wallace, Stephen and Ricky Castro, and Avram Doomchin.
After a succesfull 2004 season Jerry Castro resigned as Manager and Angelo Manniello took control of the team. His first action as Head Coach was to come up with a new name. The team voted on the Clippers because it sounded like a winning team. In the 2005 Season the Clippers started strong and ended strong. They finished the season 10-6 and were 3rd seed in the playoffs. They took on the GV Warriors in the first round and took care of them easily. Then they faced the always dangerous Williamsburg Warriors. It was a hard fought game in which the Clippers came out on top. The Championship series would showcase the College Point Clippers against their bitter rival The Whites Sox. The two teams met twice during the regular season and the Whitesox came out on top in both games in extra innings. The playoffs were a different story. The College Point Clippers won the first two games and captured the series to become the first lone Champion in Zone Baseball (now known as the NYCMBL).
Manager Manniello came back for the 2006 season with his team in high hopes. The season started off slow losing 3 out of the first 4 games. A season plagued by injury and lack of spirit resulted in the team looking weak all season. They ended the season with a strong finish because of surprising rookie's and the arrivals of old players and those on the DL. They finished at 18-10 and in 3rd place surprisingly. They faced the Brooklyn Knights in the first round and they ended the Clippers dream of a three peat in 3 games.
The 2007 season was a great year. Clippers were at their best posting a 23-10 record. Unfortunately their great season came to an abrupt end when they were stunned by the Warriors in the second round. Tobin Whitman, the Clippers new prized possession took home the NYCMBL Brooklyn/Queens division CY Young award. 2008 is on its way and the Clippers are loading their guns. |
