Eastview High School Announces New Head Girls Lacrosse Coach - Lauren DeZellar

Eastview High School Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Athletics Matt Percival has announced the hiring of Lauren DeZellar as Head Girls Lacrosse Coach for the 2009-10 season.  DeZellar will replace Garnet Asmundson who has accepted the head boys lacrosse position at Simley High School.

DeZellar, a 2008 graduate of The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio has been coaching youth and high school lacrosse for the past seven years.  Most recently she was the assistant coach at Apple Valley High School last season. She has coached youth lacrosse in the Eden Prairie association for the last seven years along with being an assistant coach for the Hamline University Women's Club team this past fall.

She played her high school lacrosse at Eden Prairie from 2000-2004.  As an attacker DeZellar helped lead the Eagles to four state tournaments and one a state club championship as a freshman and an MSHSL state title in her senior year with the Eagles.  She followed up her decorated prep career with a very successful college career at Wooster.  As a four year varsity letter winner she helped lead her team to four post-season appearances including one conference championship and NCAA appearance.  She graduated from Wooster with a degree in communications and a minor in education.

Currently DeZellar is pursuing a master''s degree in teaching including a teacher licensure program through Hamline University.  In addition she is the owner and director of Nothing But Lax camps and clinics.  She has coached and directed a number of camps along with some of the premier women's lacrosse coaches in the Midwest.  Eastview High School is very fortunate to have found a candidate of Lauren's caliber to lead the girl's lacrosse program.

WALL BALL DRILLS

To be a great lacrosse player, you have to be a great stick handler. Along with the practice time you put in with the team, you need to do an equal amount on your own! Follow these simple stick drills by yourself or with a teammate and you can become a DOMINANT lacrosse player. Wall ball will improve cradling, accuracy, passing, shooting, catching, dodging, and hand-eye coordination. Wall ball strengthens wrists, forearms, body trunk, core, shoulders, legs, reaction time, quickness, lacrosse positioning and lacrosse stance.

The following is a 20 minute wall ball routine. All drills MUST be done with both hands!

1. Any wall will work, but a smooth concrete/brick wall at least 10 feet tall is best. (Gym wall)

2. Stand approximately five (5) yards from the wall
