Aces In The Hole
Gorvetzian & Horsham Outduel 'Hens Wolfer & Kelley, Advance to Championship Series

8/22/09 -
What was probably the most anticipated matchup of the weekend, The Elmjack Blue Jays got the attention of the entire NYCMBL, by sweeping the Queens Division Champs, the Mudhens. Pitching was the theme to this series, and it certainly lived up to the hype. Game 1's matchup of reigning Cy Young Award Winner, Bobby Gorvetzian, versus Mudhens pitcher Eric Wolfer was highly anticipated. The game was tied 1-1 until 'Jays rookie Left Fielder Neal Stueber hit a two-run homer over the left-center field wall. Gorvetzian finished the job by not giving up another run. Game 1 was supposed to be a "must-win" for the defending champs since Mudhens ace Brian Kelley was set to pitch Game 2. However, the entire league looked past Blue Jays pitcher Jesse Horsham. Out of the four starters this weekend, Horsham might have had the best stuff of the day. He only gave up one unearned run in 7 innings of work. A 4-run 6th inning by the champs sealed the deal for Horsham and the Blue Jays. Horsham may have just made a name for himself in the NYCMBL. He is now 2-0 in this year's postseason, and might have made the defending champs more dangerous. Elmjack will now wait and see who their next opponent will be. They will take on the winner of the Williamsburg Warriors/ New York Pirates series. The championship series will begin next Saturday, August 29th. Time and Location have yet to be announced.
