Majors douse Spitfires:
Wrap up Season with a Win

Last night at the Stoneham Rink the Majors finished thier Summer Season on a good note, beating the third place Spitfires by a score of 6-2. The Majors were already out of playoff contention going into last nights game, but perhaps thier pride alone carried them through thier date with the Spitfires. As many of you recall the Majors defeated the Spitfires back in April to become the North of Boston champs. This was the first and only game between the teams during the Summer Season, and was also the first time they faced off against each other since the championship game.

The main goal last night for the Majors was to show the Spitfires, and themselves, that they are still a good team, and when firing on all cylinders are a force to be reckoned with. Mission accomplished.

Sporting a short bench and missing Captain Donny Foulds, the Majors still managed to jump all over the Spitfires in the first period, getting 4 goals in total. Goals from Joe Hennessey (his first of the year, yeah his first) Arthur Demasi (team high 8th goal) Chris "Juice" George (4th of the year) and Steve Foulds (5th) would give the Majors a 4-1 lead after the opening period. Assists on the goals going to Sean and Brian Hennessey, as well as Tony Salvi. Goaltender Joe Mitchell continued to show a turn around and played excellent to keep the Spitfires trailing.

Heading into the second period the Majors knew they had to keep pressing and not let the Spitfires gain any momentum. And even though the Majors played shorthanded after taking two penalties, thier penalty killing units played outstanding and limited the Spitfires' scoring chances. The Majors still managed to tack on two more goals before the end of the middle period. Goals from Sean Hennesey (4th of the year) and Steve Foulds (2nd of the night and team high 11th point) gave the Majors a commanding 6-1 lead going into the third period. Assists on the goals going to Dan Hanlon (2nd) and Tony Salvi (his 2nd assist of the night)

The third period was more about the stellar play of Joe Mitchell between the pipes. The Spitfires had some quality scoring chances, but Mitchell shut them down to keep his team ahead. It was't until late in the period when the Spitfires did manage to squeak a goal in to bring the score to 6-2. That was all the Majors needed as they closed out the period, and thier season, with a very good win. Kudos to the defensive unit who played outstanding to keep the lead and chip in offensively.

With the short bench last night the Majors were forced to do some line shuffling. Putting Mike Broderick on the wing opposite Joe Hennessey with Sean Hennessey at center, and sending out Arthur Demasi to center Tony Salvi and Steve Foulds. The new lines played spectacular together. Perhaps these lines will be the new face of the Majors' offense when the Winter Season begins. But, that remains to be seen as centerman Mark Foulds will be back from his knee injury, and Donny Foulds will also be back in the lineup. Regardless, two thumbs up to the offense for finally showing up and getting thier scoring touch back.

No word yet from the league as to when the first game of the Winter Season will be, but we do know it will be towards the end of September. The Majors will be doing themselves some good with these next couple of weeks off to get healthy and come back strong.

The Majors would like to thank all the fans who came out to watch during this awful season. We hope to see your faces again this Winter. We also hope to see some new faces sporting the Majors' logo in the stands. We know it was tough to come out and watch this past season, but it was even tougher on us to put on such a horrific show for you. We appreciate, as always, the support.

****ALSO...WE WILL NEED A HEAD COUNT ON WHO IS 100% ON BOARD FOR THE WINTER SEASON. RUMOR HAS IT WE WILL BE LOSING A COUPLE OF PLAYERS, BUT WE NEED TO KNOW WHO IS IN. START SAVING THAT MONEY TO PAY, WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THE PAYMENT IS DUE. PLEASE HAVE IT AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME.****

More news and updates to come as word from the league is released.
Until then...Cheers!

Majors vs. Spitfires:
Season Finale

Tonight at the Stoneham Rink the Five Minute Majors will play thier final game of the 2010 Summer Season. How ironic that they will take on the Spitfires, the very team the Majors beat back in April to claim the North of Boston championship. Now many of you already know the story of the Summer Season for the Majors. For those that do not, lets recap.

This season was horrendous, and down right a disgrace. The Majors were awful at times, subpar at others, but for the most part they were an absolute tragedy on the ice. The schedule did not help them either. They Majors went on a stretch playing games against teams in higher divisions (clearly teams the Majors could not compete with) BUT there were games against teams in lower divisions that still beat up the Black n Gold. So regardless of who they played, the Majors still managed to embarrass themselves. They played a few games very well (take the game against JHF) and other times they played horrific (Deep Freeze, anyone) They were often out played, out hustled, and very sloppy in all aspects of the game.  Thier offense was absolutely terrible, scoring only 37 goals this year (worst in the division...by 20 goals. Yet thier goaltending wasn't any better, allowing 57 goals. Good for third worst in the division. So with a combination like that, it should be no surprise that the Majors are out of the playoffs, and will be packing up thier gear after tonights game.

The Spitfires have been good all season. Then again they've played teams in lower divisions all along it seems. They currently sit in third place with a 7-5-2 record and will be playing in the postseason. This matchup would normally be a showcase of two great teams, as was thier playoff games over the Winter Season. But with the Majors playing so poorly right now, as well as being eliminated from the playoff picture weeks ago, it would be wrong to expect a great game. It's also tough to expect the Majors to show up and play a good game, hell even if they do it is far too little, far too late.

So come on down if you wish, and say farewell to the season from Hell. The Majors will take on the Spitfires at the Stoneham rink.
Puck drops at 8:00 sharp.

Also, following the game the Majors would like to extend an invitation to everyone to come out to the 99 in Stoneham for post game drinks and to kiss the Summer Season goodbye.

Majors destroyed 8-2

Last night at the Cronin Rink in Revere the Majors took on the Brickyard Moose Knuckles in a last attempt to get a win and salvage thier season. BMK sat just 4 points ahead of the Majors going into last nights contest, but they would emerge victorious, extend thier points lead to 6, and eliminate the Majors from making the playoffs.

Things started out wonderful for the Majors, jumping to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Steve Foulds (his 9th point of the year, tying him for first on the team) with an assist going to linemate Tony Salvi. The Majors played very well in the first period, testing the BMK goalie often but could only manage to put in one goal. BMK also had numerous chances, some chances better than others but Majors' goalie Joe Mitchell played outstanding.

BMK would get 2 goals in the second period, and the Majors would get a goal from Mike Broderick (3rd of the year) with assists going to Sean Hennessey and Mark Firmani. The second period would feature more chances for BMK than the Majors, but once again the goaltending was good enough to give the Majors a chance to take the lead...however the offense stalled and didn't manage much after the second period.

Heading into the final period of the game the Majors felt good about thier performance, a 2-2 tie at the start of the third period gave the Majors some confidence about thier chances to steal a win. That quickly vanished as BMK turned up thier game and blew the game wide open with 3 quick goals on 3 shots to take a 5-2 lead about halfway through regulation. They would tack on 3 more goals and take an 8-2 lead which obviously the Majors could never overcome. A spectacular beginning, and ok middle, and a disastrous ending to this game for the Majors. Pretty much sums up thier season. Every game the Majors felt they played well enough to win in the first period, but continuously fell apart after that.

So thats it folks, the Majors will not be in the playoffs this Summer Season, a first in franchise history. This was a season the Majors would like to forget about and move on from rather quickly. Yet there remains one game left on the schedule for them...a date with the Spitfires, the same team the Majors defeated in April to become the Winter Season North of Boston Champs. It'll be interesting to see how these two teams react to one another. It will be the first and only meeting of the season between the teams. All year the Spitfires have had thier fun against lower division teams, and built a respectable 7-4-2 record along the way.

Come down if you like next Tuesday August 31 to the Stoneham Rink to say farewell to the Summer Season with the Majors when they take on the second place Spitfires. Puck drops at 8:00
Post game drinks to bid adieu to the season/
drown our sorrows anyone?

Majors vs. Moose Knuckles:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors get back on the ice and take on the Brickyard Moose Knuckles. BMK currently sit 4 points ahead of the Majors for the last playoff spot. There is a slim chance the Majors can make an appearance in the postseason, but would need some serious help. If the Majors can pull thier heads out of thier asses and get a win tonight, they would need a win next week in the final game of the season...coupled with a Moose Knuckles loss. There are some regulations that also need to be figured out. Such as, if the Majors and BMK end up tied for points at the end of the season, which team gets into the playoffs? The team with the better win/loss record or the team who won the season series?

Regardless, the Majors should probably wake up and atleast win a game for thier ego's sake. The story all year has been the Majors horrific offensive game, and thier goaltending not playing up to par. Last week the Majors loss to the Wooly Mammoths (R.I.P.) and the BMK loss to the Sharks. So this matchup is more or less a last chance for the Majors to salavage what has been an awful season.

With center Mark Foulds done for the year (and probably playoffs if the Majors make it that far) the Majors have had to shuffle thier lines a bit, and it seems to be working to some extent. Thier defensive unit is becoming a mystery novel in itself as of late as well. Sometimes the Majors have 6 d-men dressed, and at times only 4. It's more or less a gametime answer as to which defensemen will show up to skate.

Also worth noting...Arthur Demasi made his second straight start between the pipes for the Firecats last night. Word is that Arthur will be the goalie for the remainder of the season for the Firecats...and potentially the playoffs. Last night he put in another good performance, giving the Firecats an 8-2 win over Kendall United. After last nights game, perhaps Majors goalie Joe Mitchell should be concerned about his spot as the starting netminder. Arthur appears to be getting better each time he straps on the pads, and looks to be serious about converting to goalie soon. It also looks like the Majors will be looking to acquire a quality backup for Mitchell. Arthur appears, as of now, to be the front runner for the job...however there could be a surprise roster move during the off season to take on a proven, solid backup for Mitchell for the upcoming Winter Season.

Come check out the Majors take on the Brickyard Moose Knuckles in what could be a season saving game at the Cronin Rink in Rever.
Puck drops at a late 10:40.

News & Notes

Just a few minor notes worth putting up. Last night at the Stoneham Rink Majors forward Arthur Demasi decided to try his other hockey skills and play goaltender. Thats right. Arthur has been training during the week with his mentor, former goalie/now forward Mark Foulds. Mark has been showing Arthur the ropes and basics of goaltending. Why Arthur decided to make his debut in a league game is beyond nuts....but he was excellent. The Firecats took on Havoc last night and were searching for a stand in goalie for the game. Arthur jumped at the opportunity and showed up to help the Firecats. It payed off for his as he was solid between the pipes, allowing only 2 goals off an estimated 15 shots. He looked like a regular netminder, poised and in control. If this were a Majors game, the score easily would have been 24-2..and not in the Majors' favor. Can we consider Arthur a threat to compete with Joe Mitchell for ice time in net? Probably not. But it's good to know that the Majors have some back up if needed.

In other news...Mark Foulds will be out the remainder of the season with a muscle tear in his right knee. Doctors say its nothing serious, but he should stay off skates for a couple weeks. This will give Mark plenty of time to heal his ailing knee and come back healthy and rested for the Winter Season. With the Majors going nowhere this season, and not making the playoffs, this is the perfect time for Mark to sit out and get healthy.

Don't forget, next Tuesday August 24th the Majors take the ice against the Brickyard Moose Knuckles at the Cronin Rink in Revere.

Majors lose to Mammoths;
Playoff hopes evaporate

Last night at the Stoneham Rink the Majors lost to the Wooly Mammoths 3-2. The loss would be the third in a row and would also be the nail in the coffin for the Majors' season. There will be no playoff appearance in the Summer Season for the Majors. Perhaps it is a good thing that the Majors will not be in the postseason, they have played horrendous all season and have showed on few occasions signs of being a good team. The off season should give them time to rest up, get back to the drawing board, and maybe shift things around a bit to get back to thier winning ways.

With what could possibly be the last game against thier rival, the Majors were eager to take the ice and get things off to a better start than thier past few games. Things didn't start well for the Majors as the Wooly Mammoths (sporting a full roster, with many new skaters) would get 2 goals in the opening period. The Majors did get a goal from Arthur Demasi (his team leading 7th) with assists going to linemates Steve Foulds and Tony Salvi. Although the Majors had thier chances the new Mammoths goaltender was absolutely stunning between the pipes. Shutting down the Majors already terrible offense and giving his team a chance to win.

The second period would be a sloppy one for the Majors (surprise) Turning pucks over, being out hustled to loose pucks, more or less making the Mammoths look like NHL caliber players on the ice. Steve Foulds would score to tie the game at 2-2 halfway through the period. Assist going to Dan Hanlon (his first point as a Major) The tie wouldn't last long as the Mammoths would score yet again to regain the lead at 3-2 just before the end of the second period.

The third period would be a goaltenders dual. Joe Mitchell for the Majors turned aside shot after shot to give his team a chance to tie the game, but the Mammoths' goalkeeper did his part and stayed hot to keep his team ahead for the remaineder of regulation. Mammoths win 3-2. A tough loss for the Majors as they looked to get a victory in order to help thier playoff chances. They did muster plenty of shots, but just couldn't finish and would walk away knowing thier postseason chances were over.

Hats off to the Wooly Mammoths for a great game, and a great rivalry. Both sides played each other very well. Each game was entertaining, and the competition was always at a high level. Perhaps the Majors and Mammoths should form a super team in the Winter Season...become the Five Minute Mammoths, or Wooly Majors? Whatever the case may be, this rivalry was a great one and it's tough to see it end.

Knowing thier playoff hopes have vanished, the Majors still have 2 games left to play in the season. Maybe an upset here or there could affect the seedings in the postseason. Even though it will still be tough for the Majors to get geared up for thier last 2 games,
they still need to show up and put in work.

Next week they take on the Brickyard Moose Knuckles on Tuesday August 24th at the Cronin Rink in Revere..puck drops at a late 10:40.

Majors vs. Mammoths:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors and Mammoths square off in what appears to be the last time in Mammoths' history. Word around the rink, and from a few Mamoths, the team is folding after this season. The rivalry between the teams goes back some years. Prior to the Majors' first season in the NESHL (Summer of 2009) a few founding members played the last few games of the Winter 2008 season for the Mammoths in order to help them make the playoffs. They did, and then they promptly told the reserve players they couldn't play due to league rules. Which of course would have been nice to know before playing and leading the Mammoths to four straight victories. These players were infuriated and went on to form the Five Minute Majors. Since then the rivalry has been intense and at times bloody.

Tonight will mark the seventh game bewteen the two teams since the Majors joined the league. The Majors hold a 3-2-1 record against the Mammoths. Both teams have played well against one another, and at times things have gotten out of hand. Regardless, the Majors and Mammoths always play a fun game, and both teams enjoy the competition. They also have respect for one another, which isn't common in this league. The Mammoths sit dead last in the league with a dismal 2-11 record. The Majors can't brag about thier record either, with a 3-7-2 record they appear to be out of the playoffs unless they can find some serious luck.

In order for the Majors to advance they will need some serious help from other teams. The Brickyard Moose Knuckles sit just four points ahead of the Majors for the final playoff spot. And with next weeks game against the Moose Knuckles, a victory tonight would be vital to thier playoff hopes. But first things first, and that is tonights matchup against the Wooly Mammoths.

Be sure to come out tonight to send off the Wooly Mammoths as this could very well be the last time they ever play the Five Minute Majors. Tonights farewell party is at the Stoneham Rink...puck drops at 8:10.

Majors lose 6-2:
Refs assist More Beers

In what has become a trend lately whenever the Majors play at the Malden Forum, the two clowns disguised as refs helped More Beers hand the Majors thier seventh loss of the season last night. Already shorthanded due to injuries to Mark Foulds, Dan Hanlon & Chris "Juice" George, news would also come through of a missing Gerry "Guns" Christopher. Leaving the Majors with only two healthy defenseman, although Juice would play despite a broken thumb. Immediately off the opening faceoff More Beers would score....taking a speedy (7 seconds) 1-0 lead. More Beers outplayed the Majors and scored another goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Not long after the second goal did the Majors finally get things together and get on the board. Centerman turned winger for the night, Arthur Demasi, and fill in forward Steve Duquet would score a goal each to tie the game at 2-2. Assists going to Steve Foulds and Tony Salvi on the goals. That would be it for the Majors, as More Beers would get another tally to regain the lead at 3-2 at the end of the first period.

Things started to get chippy out on the ice, with both teams showing frustration at times. The Majors would be the victim mostly, with numerous trips to the penalty box. Forcing them to play shorthanded for a good amount of the second period. If any of you can recall the infamous Revere Screwjob the Majors were involved in, then you all remember the rather large and absurdly out of shape ref that took things into his own hands and essentially cost the Majors a win...yeah, he resurfaced last night and did what he does best (aside from eat) and cut the Majors' legs out whenever he had the chance. Sending several  players to the box, and giving More Beers more of an advantage than they already had (should definitely not be in the Majors' division, and belong in a higher division playing better teams) They would get two goals in the second period to push thier lead to 5-2. Many more bogus calls (and not surprising a turn of the head when More Beers committed a penalty) would severely take away any chance the Majors had to battle back in this game. Arthur Demasi would be tossed out of the game for sticking up for himself after a check from behind. Since the refs allowed it, Arthur had no choice but to defend himself in a fight with two players from More Beers (only one was thrown out for the fight)

The third period would be even more bizarre penalty wise than the second. Numerous occasions came up where the ref was in perfect position to make a call in the Majors' favor, but didn't. Blatant disregard for the integrity of the game. Also, Chris "Juice" George would be thrown out for "shooting a puck at the ref" Really? when a ref stands on the blue line during a clearing attempt and gets hit, how is that intentional? Most players use the glass to thier advantage, but apparently the Majors get penalized for it if it hits a ref. Rediculous. Don't forget, this is the same ref that the Commish told the Majors would never ref a game involving them again...thanks alot. Way to screw that one up as well. Not to be lost in all this mayhem would be More Beers adding yet another goal and take the win by a 6-2 margin. Story of the year for the Majors...terrible offense and mediocre at best goaltending.

For some reason the Majors as a team have been absolutely terrible this year. Going into the final three games of the season, the Majors will need some serious help from other teams in order to make the playoffs. The Majors will need to win thier last three games (haha) as well as other teams not gaining anymore points. Next week the Majors will take on thier rival the Wooly Mammoths in the Mammoths final game in franchise history. Rumor has it the team is folding after this season. Perhaps the Ice Age has finally defrosted on the Mammoths.

Next weeks game is on Monday August 16th at the Stoneham Rink.
Puck drops at 8:10.

Majors vs. More Beers:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors take on More Beers at the Malden Forum. More Beers currently sits tied for first place with the Spitfires. However, don't rely on the standings from the league website. Somehow the wise Commish screwed up the standings and have the Majors dead last with only 6 points. Granted the Majors have been horrendous all year, but come on get the points and records right. The Majors played absolutely terrible last week, losing to the Whalers 7-3. More Beers seem to be on a roll and own a 6-2-2 record.

The Majors will also be shorthanded as center (and Assistant Captain) Mark Foulds will be out for an unknown period of time with a right knee injury. The knee was injured jumping off a bridge in a botched suicide attempt during a weekend getaway to Conway. Apparently the Majors' play as of late got to Mark. He will go for an MRI today and get a better idea on when he can return to the ice...good luck buddy.

Let's hope the Majors can come out and win a game for thier teammate. Come down to the Malden Forum and catch the Majors in action against More Beers...puck drops at 9:30

Majors lose to Whalers 7-3:
Hit new level of suck

Once again the Majors lost to a team they should have blown out of the water. Last night at the Stoneham rink the Whalers showed up and beat the Majors like a red headed step-child (sorry Kevin) The Majors did show up, but must have left thier skill (or whatever they have left) at home. A piss poor performance lead to the official worse loss in Majors history. Not to take anything away from the Whalers, but they aren't as good as the score would indicate...or perhaps the Majors are just that bad. The Whalers also do not belong in the division they play in. Seems strange that last nights team has only 3 wins on the season in the second to worse division in the North of Boston League. Thier offense is thier only bright spot of thier team. But regardless, they still skated all over the Majors and made them look like a beginner hockey team.

Things started off great for the Majors as a new line of Mark Foulds centering Arthur Demasi and Tony Salvi took the ice for the opening faceoff. Arthur would gather a loose puck in the circle and take it across the blue line, let loose a wrist shot that beat the goaltender five hole. Giving the Majors a very quick (15 seconds) 1-0 lead. That would pretty much be it for the Majors for the remainder of the first period. The Whalers would get two weak goals as well to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.

The Majors really started to fall apart at about the mid point of the second frame. Allowing the Whalers to roam free where ever they pleased. The Majors were playing out of position at all times, the forwards didn't help much in backchecking and playing defense. Thier defensive unit did as much as they possibly could to keep the Whalers at bay...but nothing worked. Just as the offense and at times defense has been bad, the goaltending was horrendous last night. The Whalers tacked on two more goals before the end of the second period to push the lead to 4-1. Joe Mitchell did what he could, but the Whalers always seemed to find the back of the net no matter where they shot from. With thier playoff hopes starting to dwindle with every Whaler goal, the Majors collapsed..and could barely get up.

The third period would feature two goals by Chris "Juice" George (moving him into a tie for points leader with 7) That would be the only positive of the third period for the Majors. Cutting into the lead, it appeared the Majors were poised for a dramatic comeback (cue laughter) Not a chance. The Whalers would score three more times before the game ended and skated off with an easy 7-3 win. Just when things looked to be headed in the right direction for the Majors after thier win over the Sharks last week...they took several steps backwards and just about eliminated themselves from playoff contention.

Granted they still remain tied with the Brickyard Moose Knuckles (whom they play in three weeks) with 8 points, the Majors know they must start scoring goals, and stopping shots in order to advance to the post season. As of right now, they can't do either. The offense has been absolutely horrible this season. Scoring an ugly 31 goals (giving them the worst offense in the division) Crazy to think that the Winter Season the Majors owned the best offense huh? And for some reason thier goaltending gets scored on more than a high school cheerleader (relax Firmani) The Majors have allowed a staggering 40 goals this season (second highest in the division ) Nothing is going right for the Majors, but maybe the hockey gods will look down upon this struggling team and help them win a game.

Next week they take on second place More Beers on Monday August 9th at the Malden Forum. Puck drops at 9:30

Majors vs. Whalers:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors will take on the Whalers at the Stoneham Rink. Coming off last weeks victory over the Sharks, the Majors will be looking to push thier winning streak to 2 games, as well as collect more points in order to better thier chances of being in the postseason. The Whalers sit dead last in the Warriors division with a 2-8-0 record, and also have allowed an outstanding 57 goals this season. Not much is known of the Whalers, aside from the fact that it is a team put together by the league before the Summer Season began. In other words, the Majors should make easy work of thier opponent tonight, but as we all saw 2 weeks ago
against Deep Freeze...anything can happen.

With the end of the season approaching fast, the Majors look to have figured things out just in time. Last weeks victory was a hard fought battle and all around superb effort by the entire roster. They need to have the same kind of effort going into the final month of the season. Including tonight's game, the Majors have five games left in the regular season. Three of those games are against divisional foes, with the other two games against teams in a lower division. But first things first, the Majors must come out tonight and win to keep thier playoff hopes alive. A nice offensive explosion also wouldn't hurt the Majors either. With thier defensive unit playing better, the offense needs to find its spark and get back to putting pucks in the net if the Majors wish to play in September. Tonights game is the absolute perfect time for the offense  to get back on track, and get back to being a force they are known for. Come on out to the Stoneham Rink tonight to see the Majors take on the Whalers. Puck drops at 8:10

Majors hook Sharks 2-1

Last night the Five Minute Majors of old showed up to the Cronin rink in Revere for a showdown with the Sharks. It was not a game for the weak, nor children. Just an old fashioned Majors game. The game plan for the Majors was to get back to basics in order to start winning games. Well they went back to basic hockey, and they also went Charlestown Chiefs on the Sharks. It would be the third and final time the teams would meet in the regular season. And it would also be the third time the Sharks would use a ringer goalie against the Majors. First time around was a guy who cried when a slapshot was taken, second game they searched the rink and came up with a teenage female to play between the pipes. Last night however might have been the best of all ringer goalies...a Gerry Cheevers wannabe. Seriously, he wore the same mask and same equipment as the Bruins great. It's also possible they were the same age. But this guy was no Cheevers, more like a cranky old man who should have stayed in the nursing home eating pudding and playing solitaire.

The first period would belong to the Majors. They knew times were desperate and they needed to play good hockey. With some good pressure and much better puck movement the Majors had plenty of chances to score off the old geezer but couldnt find the back of the net. It wasn't until late in the first period when the Majors would get a goal from Donny Foulds (his team leading 6th of the season) Tony Salvi (with his first assist of the year) would set the play up from behind the net. Tony carried the puck behind the Sharks' net and threw it out front to Donny who was waiting on the door step for a loose puck. Waste Management is back ladies and gentleman. The first period would end with the Majors up 1-0.

The second period would feature some good goaltending by Joe Mitchell who did his part to keep the Majors in the lead. The penalty box would also become the common gathering ground for the Majors as they were whistled for infractions often. The penalty killing unit did its part as well to keep the Sharks off the board. With several Sharks' players playing chippy and dirty (especially the bozo number 16 with the rediculous mustache) Chris "Juice" George took matters into his own hands in plowed the "mustache goon" into the boards resulting in a scrum, a one punch knockout, and an ejection for Juice. The Majors would push the lead to 2-0 off a goal from Mike Broderick. A loose puck in the slot allowed Mike to gather it and pull a nice turn-around-and-shoot move to beat the goalie low. The goal would be Mike's second of the season. Arthur Demasi would collect an assist on the play. The Sharks didn't get many chances after that and the Majors would take thier 2-0 lead into the third period.

More penalties would open the third period for the Majors. With players being sent to the box left and right, the Majors were forced to play shorthanded for a substantial amount of time. But once again the PK unit played outstanding and didn't give the Sharks many chances. Mark Firmani would also be ejected for defending his goalie when a Sharks player took hacks after the whistle had blown. Just when things looked to be getting too far out of control, the Majors gained thier composure and continued to play much better hockey than they have the past few weeks. The Sharks would get a goal from thier only good player..a nice rush down the ice and even better backhander to cut the lead to 2-1. The remainder of the game would be the Majors' as they kept the Sharks out of thier zone and take the win 2-1.

Safe to say the Majors are back. They looked like a totally different team, and appear to be moving in the right direction. A much needed victory kept the spirits high in the locker room after the game. The Majors know they still have alot of work to do in order to make it to the postseason. But for now the Majors of old are back to thier bruising ways. Playing black and blue hockey as well as playing basic hockey. Last nights game will hopefully be the turning point for the Majors as they get back to work next week when they take on the Whalers. This team was put together by league, and are a division below the Majors and in last place. If the Majors play like they did last night, the Whalers will be in some serious trouble. Just as the song on the site says..."The boys are back in town" Next weeks game is on Monday August 2nd at the Stoneham rink. Puck drops at 8:20

Majors vs. Sharks:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors get back on the ice to take on the Sharks. So far these teams have faced off twice with the first game ending in a tie and the second the Sharks emerged with a 4-3 win just two weeks ago. The Majors have been playing terrible hockey as of late. They have had trouble scoring, as well as stopping goals. Thier offensive pressure has been just as bad as thier defensive coverage. Just an all around horrific road the Majors have been on lately.  The Sharks currently sit tied for second place with 12 points...while the Majors sit dead last with only 6 points.

It has been stressed more than a few times about the Majors needing to get something going and start gaining some points in order to make the playoffs. It is almost a safe bet to say that with only six games remaining in the regular season, the time is now. Any more games with an offensive power outage, and goaltending hiccups, and the Majors will definitely be hitting the golf course before any other team. The team needs to get back to basic hockey. Playing position, looking before passing, and just get pucks on net. Things are bound to start going the Majors' way at some point. Lets be honest, it hasn't ben the easiest of schedules the Majors have seen this season.

But regardless of the schedule, the Majors still haven't beat a full roster since the Championship game back in April. They have gone winless since the second game of the season, for a stretch of 0-5-2. Hopefully tonight things will turn around and the Majors can get big ol' win number 3 of the season.

Come see if the Majors have learned how to play hockey again when they take on the Sharks tonight at the Cronin Rink in Revere. Puck drops at 7:10.

Majors Iced by Deep Freeze 5-3

Last night at the Stoneham Rink the Majors' season hit rock bottom...losing to Deep Freeze 5-3. The score would indicate a close game. But it was an ugly and horrible game for the Majors. Going into last nights game the Majors knew they needed to get thier offense going and take points from bad teams in order to gain some ground in the division. After last nights game, the offense is still terrible and they still sit tied for last place.

The first period would be an awful display of hockey for the Majors. Hoping to jump out to a quick lead, they pressured Deep Freeze but couldn't get anything going. They also turned pucks over numerous times, were out hustled to loose pucks, and flat out terrible in transition from thier defensive zone through the nuetral zone. Deep Freeze would score three times (imagine that) in the first period. The Majors did get a goal from Mike Broderick (assists too Chris "Juice George" and Arthur "One hand on the stick at all times" Demasi) to keep some dignity on the bench after the first period.

The second period would be semi-better for the Majors than the first was. They appeared to sense the urgency of losing to a team like Deep Freeze and started to play a little better. Yet for the most part, Deep Freeze was the better team throughout the second period. The Majors would get a goal from Donny Foulds (his team leading fifth of the season) coming off a centering pass from Sean Hennessey (his tying him for first for the team lead in points) But once again Deep Freeze fought back and would score twice more to extend thier lead to 5-2. Mark Foulds would bring the Majors within two after an odd and ugly goal. Mark collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and went chugging across the blue line like a freight train in super slow motion...a defenseman would chip the puck away but Mark stayed with the play and a bad bounce for the goaltender would allow him to just push the puck across the goal line. That goal would tie Mark with Sean & Joey Hennessey for the lead in points with 7 on the season.

That goal would also be the last of the night for either team. The third period would feature even more horrific hockey for the Majors. Deep Freeze looked like a totally different team than the one from back in November that was schooled 12-0 at the hands of the Majors. As well did the Majors. Sloppy play, blown coverage and just an all around terrible effort lead to the downfall of last nights game. Deep Freeze would emerge victorious 5-3. The loss would extend the Majors' winless streak to an astounding 7 games. And if you want to get technical, the Majors' second win was a forfeit, thier first against a shorthanded club sporting 7 total skaters. So in reality the Majors haven't won a game since the championship game against the Spitfires. The Five Minute Majors have not won a game against a full roster since April 20th. Unreal and very unacceptable. Things need to change, and change fast for the Majors. Perhaps it was all the games against far superioir teams that has rattled the confidence of the Black n Gold. Who knows. Not even Sherlock Holmes could solve the mystery as to where the real Majors have gone. But regardless, if things do not turn around quickly for the Majors, the season will be a bust and the golf clubs will replace hockey sticks.

Next week the Majors will take on divison rival the Sharks for the third time this season. Last time they played each other the Sharks beat the Majors 4-3, even with a short roster and teenage girl playing net.

The Majors wouldn't blame you for not coming out to next weeks game. Hell they probably shouldn't show up with the way they've played this season. But the show must go on, and the season continues next Tuesday July 27th at the Cronin Rink in Revere. Puck drops at 7:10.

Majors vs. Deep Freeze:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors take on Deep Freeze for the first time since way back on November 12th of the Winter Season. That night the Majors took Deep Freeze to a hockey clinic...beating them 12-0. As you all know, that season the Majors would win the North of Boston title, and Deep Freeze evaporated like the winter snow. Currently the Majors sit tied for third (or last depending on how you look at it) with only six points thus far. They also have a grotesque twenty-four goals scored...giving them the worst offense in the division. Deep Freeze is two divisions below the Majors and tied for first with two other teams.

The Majors have some serious offensive flaws that need to be fixed, and fast. With the season starting to wind down, and the playoffs approaching quickly..tonight is the perfect opportunity for the Majors to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Now tonights game isn't an automatic win for the Majors, considering thier subpar play as of late. The Majors shouldn't consider any opponent a push-over. They need to come out and get the offensive issues fixed, thier scoring touch back, as well as get back to winning games. Let's just hope tonight is the night and the Majors don't dig themselves a deeper hole than the one they currently sit in.

Come down to the Stoneham rink tonight to see the Majors take on Deep Freeze. Puck drops at 7:00 sharp.

Majors lose to Sharks 4-3

Last night at Hockeytown the Majors played a good game against the Sharks...just not good enough. With only seven guys on the bench and a teenage female goaltender between the pipes, the Sharks appeared to be done before the game even started.

Both teams played well in the first period. Trading scoring chances and moving the puck with good passes. The Sharks would strike first and take a 1-0 lead at the halfway mark of the opening period. Within minutes the Majors would tie the game at 1 when Gerry Christopher let a wrist shot go from the point that found the back of the net through traffic in front. The goal would be Gerry's first of the season. The score would remain tied after the first period.

The second period would feature a slew of penalties for the Majors. Some calls warrented, and others were just flat out terrible calls. The penalty kill of the Majors would continue to be strong and not allow a power-play goal. Yet the Sharks would jump ahead 2-1 anyway after some good pressure. The Majors pushed back & tied the game when Chris "Juice" George would take the puck end to end and score a shorthanded goal. The goal would be his first of the season, and second point of the night.

The third period would be the same as the second-penalties for the Majors and some sloppy play. The Sharks didn't show signs of exhaust even with an anemic roster. They would take the lead back on an absolute rocket of a wrist shot that beat Joe Mitchell high to the glove side. The Majors didn't give up and would tie the game again. Brian Hennessey would answer with his own wrist shot from the point, beating the Sharks' netminder high glove side as well. Joey Hennessey picked up his team leading seventh assist on the goal. With just under three minutes to play in regulation the Sharks would score again to take the lead 4-3. They did not allow the Majors much after that and would go on to take the victory. An all around good effort by the Majors, just not good enough. The Majors know they should have, and could have, won this game: But just couldn't generate much offense...which has been the story all season. The Majors need to find thier offense,
and fast if they want to make the playoffs.

Next Tuesday July 20th they take on old foe
Deep Freeze at the Stoneham rink.
Puck drops at a very early 7:00

Majors vs. Sharks:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors and Sharks faceoff at Hockeytown for the second time this season. The two teams played each other back on June 8th. That game ended in a 2-2 tie. Both teams played well that night, but the Majors know they can be a much better team than they were that game.

Currently the Majors sit in fourth place just 2 points behind the Sharks for third. The Majors know they have to start collecting more points if they wish to make it to the playoffs. And beating divisional opponents like the Sharks is the key. Tonights game would be the perfect opportunity for the Black n Gold to get the ball rolling in the right direction. The Sharks are a good team that moves the puck well. But the Majors know they are a good team as well, and if they can get thier offense going....they can be unstoppable. Tonights game should be a good one. With both teams looking to catch up in the standings, each team will be well prepared for the task at hand tonight.

So come on out to Hockeytown to see the Majors take on the Sharks.
Puck drops at 7:40.

Also...following tonights game the Majors would like to invite any and all people  to the Dockside in Malden to celebrate the birthday of team captain Donny Foulds.

Happy Birthday Donny!

Majors lose to The JHF 6-1

Last night at Hockeytown the Majors and The JHF played a fast paced and physical game. Both sides went into last nights contest with little, or zero, knowledge about thier opponent. The Majors knew JHF was a great team, the record shows and a few skaters saw them take out Kendall United last week. The only thing the Majors could do was come out and play thier game.

The first period would be controlled by the Majors. Right off the opening faceoff the Majors had good pressure, and some even better scoring chances. They kept putting pucks on net, but the JHF goalie was excelllent and did not allow the Majors to score. JHF would strike first on what appeared to be a no goal. A shot hit the post to the left of goaltender Joe Mitchell and then landed in the crease..whistle blown, goal called. Now the ref in the corner during the play didn't see it, nor did he blow the whistle. It was the ref at the blue line that apparently saw the puck cross the line. Regardless, the Majors fought back hard and were rewarded when Arhur Demasi would net his fourth goal of the year (which ties him for the team lead) Mark Firmani and JoJo Demasi chipped in assists on the goal to make it a tie game at the end of the first period 1-1.

The second period would not be a good one for the Majors. Some sloppy play in thier own zone along with players chasing the puck and playing out of position would lead to 4 goals by JHF to take a commanding 5-1 lead. The Majors did have some chances, but just couldn't find the back of the net. The middle frame would end with the Majors looking exhausted, and JHF clicking with crisp passes, and some unbelieveable shooting..taking the 5-1 lead into the third period.

Much as the second period went for the Majors, the third would be the same. Some good chances, and odd man rushes forced JHF to play in thier defensive zone for minutes at a time. But the goaltender stood tall and kept the lead intact. JHF would push back and score the final goal of the game to make it 6-1. Both sides played a very good game. And the Majors did better than expected against the undefeated JHF. Many players from JHF would congratulate the Majors on thier hard work and great effort...even they were surprised to be outplayed at certain points in the game. All around a superb effort, just not much to show on the score sheet.

Next week the Majors take on the Sharks in thier second meeting of the season. The first time these teams met, they skated to a 2-2 tie. It's now crunch time for the Majors. They currently sit in fourth place with just six points, trailing the Sharks by one. It appears obvious that the Spitfires and More Beers will be battling for first and second place down the stretch. So the Majors need to start collecting points in order to give themselves a better seeding come playoff time. The schedule from here on out might be in thier favor as well, no more teams in higher divisions. Now the Majors can concentrate on teams within thier division and the rest of the season.

Next weeks matchup against the Sharks has been moved from the Malden Forum to (cue sarcasm....) the always glorious Hockeytown. It is also Donny Foulds' birthday so celebratory drinks will follow the game.
Game time is an early 7:40.

Majors vs. The JHF:
Game Preview

Tonight the Majors continue on the "Tour of Upper Divisions" They will play thier 7th game of the season tonight...fourth against a team out of the division. Tonights opponent may be the best the Majors have ever seen. They will square off against The JHF, not to be confused with last weeks opponent JAFHT. The JHF sit in first place in the Catamounts Division, which is two divisions higher than the Majors...three before the wise Commish made the Big Red Division for those teams still learning to play the game of hockey.

The JHF own a perfect 5-0 record with an outstanding 30 goals scored...and only 5 allowed. The Majors know they are in for a long, and tough night. Coming off a rough game last week (the 2-2 tie against JAFHT) the Majors know this game will get ugly from the get go. The JHF desmantled Kendall United 8-0...a team the Majors fought hard against to push the game down to the wire before falling 6-4. But regardless of what team beat who, or where a team stands in the divisions, the Majors still need to show up and put forth a good effort.

Consider tonight a game that will exploit the flaws in the Majors game. A perfect chance to be shown first hand what needs to be tweaked in order to become a better team. Everyone knows tonight is going to be a hard game to play and remain focused, but thats all the Majors can do. Remain focused and not let this game determine thier season. They have plenty of games left after tonight, and plenty of chances to gain some points in order to start thier push for the playoffs.

Puck drops at 8:50 at the aesthetically unappealing Hockeytown

Breaking News:
JAFHT Moved Down/
Divison Down to 5 Teams

In a rather surprising move, the commissioner has moved JAFHT out of the Friars divsion and down to the Warriors division. Kind of rediculous now that both divisions below the Majors will allow all four teams to play in the postseason. Meaning even those teams who remain winless (Spartans & Mammoths) as well as teams with only one win (Whalers & JAFHT) will be able to  advance to the playoffs, while teams in other divisions have to earn thier right to play. Even more so that now the division the Majors call home is down to just 5 teams. Meaning only four will advance. With the Spitfires and More Beers destroying teams below, it is obvious that it will be a dog fight to make it to the playoffs.

Nonetheless it's going to be a tough road to the playoffs for the Majors. Next week they take on The JHF (who took out Kendall United last night 8-0) The Majors will need to play hard and continue to gather as many points as they possibly can if they want to make an appearance at the postseason dance.

But who knows, maybe next week the Commish will move another team down, cut the division again and force the Majors to play top teams the rest of the way. Seems to be the story week in and week out this Summer Season. What ever happened to teams playing divisional opponents, and not being forced to get destroyed by far superior teams?

Only time will tell...stay tuned.

Majors and JAFHT skate to a 2-2 tie

Last night at the Malden Forum the Majors took on JAFHT in what ended up being a back and forth affair all night. WIth the Majors looking to get back on track after losing to Kendall United, they headed to the rink looking to take out some aggression on thier old foe. JAFHT sits dead last in the division, and the Majors in third place. But JAFHT did not look like a last place team last night.

At puck drop familiar faces were seen and old rivalries renewed. JAFHT controlled most of the first period as the Majors played sloppy and appeared tired in the early going. The Majors were being out hustled, and out worked along the boards which lead to numerous chances for JAFHT. But goaltender Joe Mitchell stood tall and kept the game tied throughout the first period. The Majors had some chances as well, and like JAFHT, couldn't find the back of the net. At the end of the first the game remained scoreless.

Early in the second period JAFHT would score when some bad pressure by the Majors led to a clean breakway. They would remain up by a goal for only a short time though as Sean Hennessey would continue his hot streak and  rush down the right wing, let a low wrist shot go that beat the goalie five-hole. The goal would be Sean's third of the season (third in the last 3 games) tying him for the team lead alongside fellow centerman Mark Foulds.

Going into the third period tied 1-1, the Majors felt pretty good about thier play but knew they needed to keep playing hard in order to come out on top with 2 points. Much as the first period went, each team had good opportunities to take the lead. Arthur Demasi would score his third of the season halfway through the third to give the Majors the 2-1 lead. His goal would be the result of some excellent hustle by wingers Mike Broderick and Kevin Smith which lead to a loose puck behing the net. Demasi collected the freebie and tucked it in for the lead. With 1:20 remaing on the clock defenseman Gerry "Guns" Christopher would be whistled for a high stick, on the same play goaltender Mitchell was given a roughing penalty as well. Sending the Majors on the penalty kill for the remainder of the game. Not to mention giving JAFHT a two-man advantage with thier goaltender pulled. The Majors PK unit played great for the most part. Until JAFHT was able to get a weak shot from the point that beat a screend Mitchell to tie the game at 2 with ten seconds left on the clock.

Thats how the game would end. A hard fought game by both sides led to the tie. JAFHT had the lucky bounce at the end to steal a point from the Majors.
Other game notes: Winger Joey Hennessey picked up his team leading sixth assist last night. Tying him for the points lead with Sean Hennessey and Mark Foulds. The only difference is Sean & Mark have found the back of the net...Joey remains without a goal so far. Must be all that late night cuddling with the trophy and dart touneys, huh Joey?

The Majors now currently sit 4 points out of first at the halfway point of the season. Next week's matchup will not make things easier for them either when they take on The JHF. A team three divisions above the Majors with a stellar 4-0 record and an even more eye popping 5 goals allowed. Sure to be a tough, tough matchup for the Majors.

Heading into the long Fourth of July weekend the Majors would like to wish all thier fans a safe and happy Fourth.

See you all Tuesday July 6th at Hockeytown...gametime is 8:50

Majors vs. JAFHT:
Game Preview

The Five Minute Majors get back to the ice tonight at the Malden Forum  when they take on old school rival JAFHT. These two teams have had some epic battles in the past. Literally. Great games, a few fights mixed in, and of course the playoff blowout handed to the Majors 4-1 the last time these teams met have made for some bad blood.

It has been just about ten months since these teams played each other last. It was the 2009 Summer Season playoffs at the Stoneham Rink. The first postseason in Majors history. And JAFHT beat them 4-1...to advance and beat the Wooly Mammoths to win the 2009 Summer Season championship.  As many other teams know, the Majors have gotten much, much better since that defeat. With a few roster moves (mostly to drop dead weight from the lineup) the Majors went on to win the 2009 Winter Season title, while JAFHT failed to make the playoffs.

This summer season has been a tough one for the Majors to figure out thus far. With a respectable 2-2-1 record, sitting in third place, the Majors have played one team in thier division. Tonight they will play the second game against a division opponent. JAFHT on the other hand seems to be in a freefall. They currently sit dead last in the division with a 1-5-0 record and a horrendous 34 goals against. Not saying that tonight is a guarenteed win for the Majors, but it would a nice way to get things going in the right direction if they can beat the antique JAFHT.

It appears the Majors will have to earn as many points as possible this season to earn a playoff berth. With the Spitfires and More Beers playing lower division teams, and cleaning house, they are in command of the division right now...and have yet to faceoff against the Majors.

But first things first. The Majors must get back on track and tonight is the perfect opportunity to do so. Come on down to the Malden Forum to see the Black n Gold take on JAFHT. Puck drops at 9:30.

Majors fall to Kendall United

Last night at Hockeytown the Majors went to battle with Kendall United. And what  a battle it would be. It would be the first game in nearly two weeks for the Black n Gold, but it didn't appear to slow them down at all. With a cameo appearance from Chris "Juice" George, the Majors sported a full roster last night.

The first period would be a fast paced shooting gallery. Both sides had some great scoring chances  but the goaltenders kept the game scoreless for most of the period. The Majors would strike first as Arthur Demasi would get his second of the season with just under three minutes to play in the opening frame.

The second period would tilt largely in favor of Kendall United. They scored early in the period to tie the game at one. Yet the Majors fought hard to score the next goal, they just couldn't find the back of the night. Some sloppy play in the defensive zone by the Majors led to three quick, unanswered goals for Kendall to take the lead 4-1. Things looked bad for the Majors as they were clearly being outplayed. However the team showed its grit and toughness and cut the lead to 4-2 when Mark Firmani would pinch down from the point to slip a loose puck into the net. It would be Firmani's first goal of the season...and first since September of '09. Nice work getting that monkey, or rather gorilla, off your larger than life back kiddo.

The third period would feature more toughness from the Majors as they pressed hard and often in the offensive zone. Some great scoring chances would be denied yet the Majors pushed forward and refused to give up. Sean Hennessey would get his second of the season after hammering home a juicy rebound in the slot. That goal would put the Majors back into the game 4-3. With just under five minutes to go in regulation, Mark Foulds would tie the game. Some excellent puck rotation in the offensive zone led to Mark getting his third goal of the season, and team high sixth point. However the momentum wouldn't last too long as Kendall would score again to re-take the lead 5-4. The Majors pulled the goalie with under a minute to play to get an extra skater and try to jam home the winning goal. They had chances and made it exciting down to the final twenty seconds before Kendall United would break free down the ice and score the final goal of the game and win by a 6-4 margin.

A hard fought game by both sides. And once again the Majors showed thier resiliency, coming from three goals down to make it a game. Another game note would be a two point night for Joey Hennessey who had two assists, giving him the team lead with five for the season.

The Majors now sit in third place behind the second place More Beers (who are another mystery team) and first place Spitfires (who for some reason have been playing thier games against teams in the lower division. Which would explain thier nine points and thirty goals for)

Next week the Majors will face an old (literally and figuratively speaking) foe in JAFHT. The last meeting between these teams would be back in the summer of 2009 when JAFHT beat the Majors in the playoffs 4-1. The Majors have improved, and JAFHT appears to have gotten worse. As you all know the Majors would win the North of Boston title over the winter, JAFHT didn't even make the playoffs and currently sit dead last in the division at 1-4.

Next week's game will be Tuesday June 29th at the Malden Forum.
Puck drops at 9:30.

Majors vs. Kendall United:
Game Preview

Once again the Majors will take the ice at Hockeytown. And once again they will square off with an opponent out of thier division. As many of you already know, the Majors have played just one team in the Friars Division so far this season. That was the last game, coming against the Sharks. The Majors have faced the Wooly Mammoths, Max Power, Diablo and now Kendall United. All teams are either below (Mammoths) or ahead (Max Power, Diablo and Kendall Unite) of the Majors in terms of divisions.

Not to mention that the Majors have had two weeks without a game. The second time this season in which they had a two week layoff. Kind of rediculous when you see teams like the Spitfires and More Beers with more games played. It appears the Majors will be playing catch up all season. Also added to the catch up game will be the points race. The Majors need to pick up valuable points against teams regardless of where they sit in the divisions if they plan on making an appearance at the post season dance.

But no matter what, the Majors will be ready for tonights game. Kendall United is another mystery team. Never seen them play, and don't know much about them. Aside from the fact that they are a division above the Majors and in fifth place with a 1-2-1 record.

So come on out tonight to Hockeytown, although we wouldn't blame you for not showing up...that rink sucks.

The Majors take on Kendall Unite tonight at 7:30

Majors tie Sharks:
Currently tied for first place

Last night at Hockeytown the Majors and Sharks went to battle for the first time in the history of either franchise. It was tough to get a scouting report on the Sharks. And after last nights matchup, it appears they are a team that will be competitive all season, and probably one of the teams who will be fighting for a playoff spot later in the season. This was also the first time this season where the Majors played a division opponent. They have played four games thus far and currently sit at 2-1-1, good enough to be tied for first place with last seasons runner up, the Spitfires.

The game started off with some great scoring chances for both teams. Back and forth play throughout the first period made for an entertaining start. Sean Hennessey would get the first goal of the game, and his first of the season, off a breakaway with just under four minutes left in the first period.

The second period would mirror the first, with more chances for both sides. Excellent goaltending by Joe Mitchell kept the Majors up by a goal until the Sharks pounced on a loose puck and scored to tie the game 1-1. The rest of the period would feature a couple penalties on both sides, with each team getting some time on the power play, but nothing coming out of it. It would remain a tie game until Arthur Demasi deflected home a shot to give the Majors the lead once again 2-1. The goal would also be Arthur's first of the season. His linemates, brothers Mark and Steve Foulds would continue thier hot streaks, coming away with an assist each. They both have points in all four of the Majors' games thus far.

The final period would showcase the Majors puck movig ability, limiting the Sharks' offense to few shots. However they did get lucky and score to tie the game at two. They had chances late in regulation to put the game away, but Joe Mitchell kept the Majors in it. Final score would remain tied at 2-2. Each team taking a point from this back and forth, exciting game.

The Majors have yet another bye week coming up, and will not return to the ice until Tuesday June 22nd when they will take on Kendall United (once again a team one division above them) at Hockeytown...Puck drops at an early 7:30.

Majors vs. Sharks: Game Preview

Once again the Majors will head to Hockeytown (AKA Hockey Hell Hole) for tonights game. For the first time this season the Majors will play a team in thier division. As you recall the Majors opened up the Summer Season agianst the Mammoths (a division below) next were granted a win against Diablo (division above) via forfeit, and last week they took on Max Power (division above) and made it a close one down the stretch before falling 5-3.

So tonights opponent will be the Sharks (original huh). Not much is known of this team. The Majors have never played them, nor have they even seen a game the Sharks have played. For all the Majors know, they could be as real as Mark Firmani's muscles. The Majors hope to get back on track and back to thier accustomed winning ways. Granted its only the fourth game of the season, but the Majors can leap frog the Spitfires into first place with a win tonight.

Come on down to Hockeytown tonight to catch the Majors in action against the Sharks. Puck drop is 9:50

Majors fall to Max Power 5-3

Last night at dreaded Hockeytown the Majors took on Max Power and pushed them as far as they could. Max Power is a division above the Majors, and a very talented team. The first meeting between the teams was back in the Summer of 2009, the Majors' first season in franchise history. Max Power took the victory in the only game 8-1. This time around, however, the Majors made this game a close one.

The teams came out firing in the first period, with numerous chances for both sides. Max Power would draw first blood and score halfway through the opening period. With a couple minutes left on the clock, they would score again to take a 2-0 lead into the second period.

The Majors would have some good pressure to open the second period, but still couldn't put the puck in the net. Eventually Max Power would score to make it 3-0, and again before the end of the period to take a commanding  4-0 lead into the final period.

Things got interesting in the third period. Excellent pressure by the Majors lead to a power play, some great opportunities to score, and a good four to five minutes of pinning Max Power in thier own zone...forcing them to ice the puck on numerous occasions to relieve the pressure. It wasn't much of a game until Mark Foulds set up brother Steve with a beautiful pass in front of the net. With Steve camped on the doorstep of the crease, he quickly tapped in a one-timer to put the Majors on the board...as well as continue the streak of having yet to be shutout in franchise history. Minutes later the Majors would score when Tony Salvi banked in a loose puck to cut the lead to 4-2. After the ensuing faceoff, the Majors pulled thier goalie to get an extra skater on the ice, but didn't have to use him...because Steve Foulds set up Tony Salvi for his second goal of the night to bring the Majors within a goal.  But with the final fifteen seconds ticking off the clock, Max Power would score an empty net goal to seal the victory 5-3.

A hard fought battle by both teams, especially the Majors. Many players from Max Power were surprised, and very congratulatory to the Majors on thier resiliency and hard work down the stretch to push this game as far as it could go. Not a bad overall game for the Majors.

The Majors will have the rest of the week off, and get back on the ice next Tuesday June 8th when they take on the Sharks. Again at Hockeytown. This time the puck drops at 9:50.

Majors vs. Max Power: Game Preview

Tonight the Majors get back to action as they take on Max Power. Max Power is a division above the Majors, and currently sit tied for first with four points. These two teams have only met once, and it was way back during the 2009 Summer season (The Majors' first official season in the NESHL) they met on May 18th, second game of the season for the Majors. And Max Power welcomed the Majors to the league with an excrutiating 8-1 beating.

The Majors since then have become a much better team. They made the playoffs in thier first season, and more or less took control of thier division over the winter...riding a huge wave of stellar play to thier first championship in franchise history. But enough of the past, the Majors of the present have a new roster, a better defensive unit than a year ago, a highly potent offense and an even more calm, and cofident Joe Mitchell behind the pipes.

Tonights matchup should be an interesting one. For starters, the Majors have "played" two games this season. The first, an 8-2 destruction of a very shorthanded Mammoths team. Next game was supposed to be scheduled agasint Diablo, yet the goaltender showed up too late for the game to begin, therefore giving the Majors win number two. So in reality, tonight looks to be the first official game of the season. Hopefully the two week layoff will not be a factor tonight and the Majors can show up prepared for a battle.

Come on down and check out the Majors take on Max Power at the always hideous Hockeytown. Puck drop is a suprisingly early 7:30.

Early enough for post game beers, aye boys?

More games scheduled/
Divisions put together

Finally the league has more games scheduled and put the divisions together for the Summer Season. The Majors have been moved up a division and will face some new competition over the Summer. Teams such as the Sharks, Brickyard Moose Knuckles and More Beers are the new teams. The Spitfires and Deep Freeze are familiar foes who the Majors have seen and played well against in the past.

Check out the updated schedule, as well as the updated divisions. Should be a good Summer, and definitely interesting once the Majors get to face thier new opponents. Many games will be played at Hockeytown (gross) as well as start times be much earlier than the Majors have become notorious for getting. The latest game on the schedule thus far is 9:50. Many games start prior to nine...which means plenty of after game boozing this summer boys.

The next game for the Majors will be on Tuesday June 1st at the worst rink ever built...Hockeytown. Puck drop is a surprisingly early 7:30 against Max Power.

Get ready for a wild Summer.

Majors vs. Mammoths:
Opening Game Preview

Tonight is the opening night for the Majors' summer season. They will face off against thier well known rival, the Wooly Mammoths. These two teams went as far as they could in the postseason over the Winter. With the Majors winning the North of Boston championship...and the Mammoths getting blown out 10-0 to lose thier title game. However the Majors know that the Mammoths are a better team than that score shows. These teams play each other very well, they know each others tendancies and matchup against each other perfectly. At times, there were blow outs (a 10-3 win for the Majors) close games, and even the infamous tie following the Revere Screwjob.

The Majors are coming off thier best season as a franchise, a record of 13-4-6. They know tonights game can go either way. The series history between the Black n Gold and the Mammoths stands at 3-2-1 (advantage Majors). Each team owning huge margins of victory, embarrassing losses and the tie which we all know about. Tonight the rivalry is rekindled. The Majors hope thier winning ways will carry over from the Winter and postseasons, yet hope the championshop hangover isn't too much to battle through.

This will also be the first game as a Major for thier newest edition, Dan Hanlon. It appears Dan will the fourth defensemen in the already stacked defensive unit. This gives the Majors two solid pairings of d-men. Its also possible the Dan could see some time as a forward if need be, and there might be some line shuffling prior to tonights game. Stay tuned.

Come down and see the Five Minute Majors take on the Wooly Mammoths on opening night at the Malden Forum. Puck drops at a late 10:40. Which gives all you fans time to watch the Bruins take on the Flyers tonight as well. Lets hope both Black n Gold teams emerge victorious tonight.

LETS GO BRUINS!!!

Majors open Summer Season
against Mammoths

The NESHL has posted the first few games of the 2010 Summer Season. Many teams will have thier opening night before the Majors, but no game will be as anticipated as this.

The Five Minute Majors open up the Summer Season on Monday May 10th at 10:40 at the Malden Forum...against none other than the hated rival Wooly Mammoths. Series history between the teams sits at a 3-2-1 record for the Majors. The "tie" coming after the infamous "Revere Screwjob" which you all remember.

In other Majors news, the team would like to announce the signing of versatile player, Danny Hanlon. Dan is a good two way player who can skate forward or defense. It appears he will be the newest staple at the blueline for the Majors. The offense looks to be set, but with the loss of forwards Arthur and JoJo Demasi, things could change once the season begins. Regardless of where he plays, the Majors would like to officially welcome Dan to the team. Also, defenseman Mark Firmani has signed a one year extension as well. Firmani was an excellent d-man down the stretch in the Winter Season for the Black n Gold before breaking his thumb in the squared circle. The team is very excited about these two players, and eager to get them on the ice. Should be an exciting Summer Season for the Majors.

Don't forget, Opening Night is May 10th- Malden Forum. Puck drops at 10:40.

 Majors beat Spitfires 2-1:
Crowned North of Boston Champs!!

Last night at the Malden Forum the Majors were victorious over the Sptfires 2-1...giving them the North of Boston championship. Things would go down to the wire before the game finally ended with the Majors on top, but this game was as entertaining as any game the Majors have played all season.

Gametime jitters ran throughout the lockeroom prior to the start of last nights winner take all game. However the Majors tried to keep things loose and stressed thier game plan, bodies in front of the net = goals. As the first period played on, both the Spitfires and Majors had many great scoring chances. And as usual, goaltending would be the story. It wasn't until late in the first period when defenseman Gerry (Guns or the man with two first names, take your pick) Christopher let a wrist shot go from the blue line that beat the Spitfires' goaltender low to give the Majors a 1-0 lead. Not to be forgotten on that play, was the traffic in front of the net which screend the netminder.

The second period would be pretty much the same as the first. Many opportunities for both teams to score, yet the goaltenders played phenomenal. More so the Majors' Joe Mitchell who made numerous game saving stops throughout the second period to keep the Majors in the lead. Eventually, however, the Spitfires managed to chip a puck in behind Mitchell to tie the game at one. The Majors wouldn't let that goal take thier confidence away and continued to battle for loose pucks and out play the Spitfires. With just under 4 minutes left in the middle frame, Mark Foulds would score the eventual game winning goal to put the Black n Gold up 2-1. Some good puck movement and a shot by Tony Salvi led to a juicy rebound which landed in the slot. Where Mark slapped home the loose puck, sending the Malden Forum into a frenzy. The goal would be Mark's second point of the night, and Salvi picked up his second assist as well.

The final period of the game would feature a penalty shot, brawl, quality scoring chances, and even more continued stellar play by Joe Mitchell. After a scramble in front of the Majors' net, bodies lie on the ice with Gerry Christopher lying on top of the puck...penalty shot awarded to the Spitfires. Talk about a turning point in the game. The Majors were up 2-1, and this could either make or break the game. As the Spitfires' forward took the puck from center ice and skated in on Mitchell, the rink went silent. Mitchell came out to the top of this crease to cut down angles...the Spitfire deked, and tried to stuff the puck five hole, but Joe denied him. What a game changing save that was. That save right there, was the save of the season. The period continued on with pressure from both teams, each pressing for a goal. With about nine minutes to go, the Majors' Mike "Goldfish" Broderick was cross-checked from behind. Taking matters into his own hands, Mike went after the dirty player and took him down to the ice. Resulting in all ten skaters on the ice jumping in pig pile style. Broderick and his opponenet were immediately ejected, as was Chris "Juice" George and the Spitfires' top defenseman. After a long delay to sort out the penalties and ejections, the game resumed. It appeared to be toned down as well in terms of physical play. Both sides played a clean game from that point on. With the Majors up 2-1 the Spitfires pulled thier goaltender with roughly a minute and a half left on the clock. A flurry of shots from all six Spitfires caused some panic on the Majors bench. Yet Mitchell stood tall and took the game into his own hands, shutting down everything the Spitfires threw at him. While the final seconds ticked off the clock, anticipation and jubilation were the emotions running throughout the Majors' skaters, and fans as well.

End of regulation...Majors hang on 2-1. Let the celebration begin. Goaltender Joe Mitchell was named the MVP for his unbelieveable play and composure. Beers and champagne rained down in the lockeroom as the championship trophy made its way around the room. And man, never has it tasted so good.

The Five Minute Majors would like to send a HUGE thank you to all thier fans and supporters. Throughout the long and grueling season, you stuck by and came to all the late 10:40 games in 20 degree weather. Neither snow nor rain kept you away from the action. We just want you fans to know that we appreciate the support. Thank you.

Word around the rink is that the Summer season starts the first week in May...
More to come on that.

For now, lets all enjoy the time off to celebrate the
Five Minute Majors: 2009-2010 Winter Season
North of Boston Champions!!

 Majors vs. Spitfires:
Championship Game Preview

Well ladies and gentlemen, tonight is the night we have been waiting for since the heartbreaking overtime defeat on April 7th. Both teams have had ample time to rest and gear up for tonight's winner take all game. The Majors will see the return (finally) of forward Joey Hennessey who is back from his East Coast road trip. Word around the rink is that goaltender Joe Mitchell has his confidence flowing and had a strong showing during an on ice workout yesterday.

The Majors hope that they can start the way they did during the last game. Come out strong, and be the first to score. They also hope that they can finish much better than they did. Keep the lead intact, and don't slow down. Put lots of pucks on net (anything can happen) and play solid, sound defense in front of thier netminder. The key to tonights game is to put pucks on net, and get bodies in front of the Spitfires' goalie. Traffic in front will almost always lead to good results.

Not much more to say about tonights game. Come out strong boys, come ready to play. No stupid penalties, no retaliatory penalties. Just play the game and leave it all on the ice. We can't control what the refs will or will not call as a penalty, but we sure as hell can control the type of game we play.

Hope to see the stands packed with Five Minute Majors fans tonight.
The louder, the better.
Puck drops at 9:30 at the Malden Forum.

Majors fall to Spitfires 3-2 in Overtime

Last night at the Malden Forum the Majors lost to the Spitfires in overtime 3-2. With one win needed to clinch the title, the Majors came ready to play and make it a clean sweep in the postseason to its first championship in franchise history.

On the first shift of the game the Majors would jump to a quick lead. Sean Hennessey found a loose puck in the offensive zone and zipped a pass out front where Mike Broderick was waiting, tapping the puck into the net to give the Majors a 1-0 lead. That lead would stand for most of the fist period until the Spitfires were able to tie it up. Both teams had numerous scoring chances, but as the story goes with these two teams, goaltending kept this game close.

The second period would feature only one goal. A new wrap around by defenseman Chris "Juice" George gave the Majors a 2-1 advantage. With bodies in front of the net, Juice controlled the puck behind the net and made a move to draw the Spitfires goalie to his far left, giving Juice plenty of room to skate out front and jam home a wrap around goal. The Majors' goalie, Joe Mitchell, game up huge throughout the rest of the period to keep the lead in tact.

Not to be left unmentioned would be the horrific officiating throughout the second and third periods. Numerious bogus calls on the Majors led to them playing shorthanded for most of the game. Although the penalty kill did a nice job, it still made things tough for the Majors to score and put the game away. Some calls were warranted, and the Spitfires (surprisingly) got called for a few infractions of thier own. Yet the Majors seemed to be down a man every other shift. How does a guy get punched in the head, and get sent to the box for roughing? Regardless of how the game was called, the Majors still had work to do in order to win.

During the third period the Majors threw everything they could at the Spitfires' goaltender, and he made the saves. Giving his team the chance to tie it...and they did. With just under four minutes to play they would tie the game at two. After the tying goal, the Majors controlled the puck nicely and set up some good scoring chances, with nothing to show for them. The third period would end with the teams tied 2-2.

Overtime would belong to the Majors for the first few minutes. They had some chances, but yet again could not finish. A loose puck was picked up by a Spitfire forward who rushed into the Majors' zone, and chipped the puck just over the shoulder of Joe Mitchell....game over. The Spitfires would win in overtime 3-2. Sending the championship round to a sudden death, loser-go- home game in twelve days.

The next game will be played on Tuesday April 20th at 9:30. The winner will be crowned champion, and the loser will be sent home. Be sure to come down and cheer on the Majors as they look to leave everything on the ice and win the championship. Hope to see lots of fans there in support of the Black n Gold.

Majors vs. Spitfires:
Championship Game Preview

Tonight the Five Minute Majors will take on the Spitfires for the second time in 2 weeks. The Majors only need one win to take home the championship; Spitfires need to win twice. The last meeting between these two teams was a well played game. The Majors came out on top 4-2, giving them the first ticket to the big dance. This past Monday night the Spitfires eliminated Gordon College 4-2 as well, earning thier right to take on the Black n Gold.

These teams know each other very well. Thier styles of play are similar, the only difference is that the Majors have a much better offense than the Spitfires. Both teams play shutdown defense, and have solid goaltending in net. The Majors hope to keep thier momentum going and make it a clean sweep of the playoffs to be crowned the champs. Add to the mix the fact that the offense has found its scoring touch, thier defense has played flawless as of late, and that goaltender Joe Mitchell has been nothing short of spectacular between the pipes....and a clean sweep doesn't sound to far out of reach.

The Majors will once again be without forward Joey Hennessey, who is still parading down the East Coast on vacation (fag) and could possibly be missing forward Justin Griffin, who has work obligations on the Vineyard. In other roster news, an injury to the Majors' defensemen Mark "the wrestler" Firmani could keep him out of tonights game. Mark broke his right thumb in two places last night while at his usual Tuesday night spot....the wrestling ring. Doctors say surgery is a possibility, but request that Firmani see a hand specialist before any further action can be taken. The Majors hope it's not as bad as it sounds, and can have Firmani back as soon as possible.

So make sure you come down tonight and cheer on the Majors as they look to win the North of Boston Winter Season title in just thier second season in franchise history. The Majors hope to fill the stands tonight with ecstatic fans, and are hoping the champagne flows like water after tonight's game.

Game time is a late 10:40 start at the Malden Forum
