Anna Pearson - Detroit Red Wings Jersey - Glenn Merkosky

On December 16th 2009, Anna Pearson, Grade 12 student at GFSS and a member of the GF Figure Skating Club had a car accident while coming to school from her home in Curlew.  Anna substained serious injuries and was taken to the Hospital in spokane.  She is progressing slowly, but will require extensive therapy. Anna's Father and Mother live in Curlew, and she has a brother, John who attends school here and is a PeeWee with the local Minor hockey Association.  Local skaters and friends are heading up a fundraiser skate to help the Pearson's with expenses they will face.  John Mackie, Grand Forks Recreation Director, has donated the Public Skate time on February 28th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.  Skating admission and skate rentals will be by donation.

Also, the Grand Forks Border Bruins International Alumni has arranged for a Jersey from the Detroit Red Wings. The winner can select their favorite Detroit player to autograph the Jeresy, and it will be mailed directly to them.  This also will be by donation, and you can enter at the Arena Concession Monday - Thursday 3:00 - 6:00 pm and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the day, or during Public Skate or Border Bruins games.  This generous donation comes from Glenn Merkosky who was a Border Bruin in 1975-76 and was named the 'Rookie of the Year'.  He has had an illustrious career winning many awards along with three (3) Stanley Cup Rings.  He played and coached the Adirondack Farm team and is the first and only player to have his jersey retired.  He is presently in his eight (8th) year as a pro-scout for the Red Wings.  He stated that Grand Forks was good to hime, and he wanted to do something back.  The Jersey winner will be selected at the end of the Public skate on February 28th, 2010.
