DEFENDING CHAMPS TO HAVE DIFERENT LOOK IN 2012

In 2011 Bobby Williams and the boys down in Clute accomplished what many never do; they went a perfect 12-0 in the post season. With many teams opting for three gamers this is a most impressive accomplishment and when you look at the path traveled its monumental. Heading into the 2011 play-offs, the Buccaneers carried the H5AB Coaches #13 ranking and stepped on the gas from that point on defeating Kempner in a two game sweep, swept South Houston in two games, swept H5AB Coaches #19, Deer Park in two games, swept H5AB Coaches #2, HISD Lamar in two games, swept H5AB Coaches #3, Memorial in two games. That got them to the State Tournament where they defeated H5AB Coaches #12 Klein to reach the Championship game vs. Coronado. READ MORE...

EAGLES SET TO FLEX COLLECTIVE MUSCLE AS 4A POWER IN 2012

In 2011 the Eagles took to the diamond with a proven Field General who had weathered the storm at the 5A level and not only reached the promised land of Texas 5A Baseball, but captured the hardware as the 2005 UIL 5A State Champions with the Kingwood Mustangs. Denny, in hist 1st year at Barber's Hill led the Eagles to a 19-4A play-off appearance with a very young squad.

In 2012 Head Coach David Denny will field a team in with some striking similarities to his 2005 Kingwood squad. Each team had outstanding pitching led by one of the nation’s top prep power pitchers, each possess premium leadership and skill behind the plate with top shelf catching, each possesses some of the best secondary pitching in their classification, each squad shares the distinction of fielding multiple players committed to play in college, and each team possesses +skills at the plate and in the field. With the 2012 NFHS mandate to BBCOR bats many teams will quickly realize that fundamental baseball will be the rule of the day. Those who excel fundamentally on the field will be those who make the deep play-off runs in 2012. From the parents to the students, and coaches, the successful teams in 2012 will be those who possess the best combination of these qualities.

BASE RUNNING WILL BE PREMIUM IN 2012 – The ability to steal, take the extra base, get the proper lead, execute the hit & run, will be key to 2012 success.

PITCHERS MUST THROW STRKES; WALKS WILL BE DEVESTATING – In 2012, pitchers must throw strikes! With the emphasis on high quality base running, now more than ever, walks will turn into runs.

FUNNDAMENTALS; BUNTING, HIT & RUN, WILL STAND OUT – The ability to get a bunt down on any count at any spot in the order will be a necessity for any team to be successful in 2012.

UP THE MIDDLE DEFENSE WILL BE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL TEAMS – Catcher, SS, 2B, & CF will once again be the prime positions on the field. The positions where you will likely find some of your best players in the game. To be successful, teams will need smart, athletic, catchers who possess above average arm, footwork, throwing, & leadership. The SS of 2012 will have to possess above average footwork, glove work, range, and arm. At 2B teams will need an above average glove man as well as good speed, and superior communications skills with fellow team mates. The CF will once again be the true captain of the outfield! He will possess above average speed, footwork, arm, & glove. Will have a take charge mentality. Solid at the corners; 1B & 3B will be required to excel at defensive skills on the field now more than ever. 1B will require above average glove work, & leadership qualities. 3B will require above average instincts, footwork, & arm.

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL; WILLINGNESS TO PLAY UNSELFISHLY – The willingness for players to play as a team, put down the bunt, make the perfect slide, accept your role, and the overall willingness of players to incorporate “what’s best for the team’ in their decisions and game play. Unselfishness at home; willingness of parents to except what the best roll for player’s particular team is as designated by his coach.

The Chargers celebrated a very successful season in 2011 where they would push all the way to the Region III QTR Finals before dropping the series 2-games-to-0 to the Clements Rangers. Coach Walton and the Bruins lost most of their pitching to graduation but do return some talented players including; H5AB 1^st Team All Houston OF Mike Norris, talented Jr catcher Charles Guillory, and All-District Caleb Bluitt. But the Bruins are in a district with perennial power La Porte, upstart North Shore, Channelview, & Ross Sterling teams loaded with young talent so Coach Walton & Staff will have their work cut out for them.

The Langham Creek Lobos have been somewhat of a mystery the past couple seasons with slow starts in a brutal district. The Cy Creek Cougars got on a serious roll in 2011 racking up 14 consecutive district victories on their way to capturing the 17-5A Crown. Winning the District 17-5A is a monumental accomplishment considering it is a ten team district where anyone can beat anyone on any given night. The Dragons graduated four players signed to play at the nest level for a 2011 squad who had a very tough season finishing two games under 500 in district 16-5A play. In 2012 Round Rock returns a group of nine lettermen and a very talented rising class. A successful off-season has the players eager and hoping to make dramatic improvements on 2011.

The Mustangs were our odds-on favorite here at the website to have a breakout year in 2011. The strong returning class of pitching & hitting of that squad earned them high pre-season rankings across the state. But like any good coach will tell you, “rankings mean nothing, its what you do on the field”.
