Charging Mavs Topped by Tough

Port St. Lucie Pirates, 39-6

The Charging Mavericks Football Team came out guns blazing and scored a touchdown after a masterful 70-yard, 8-play drive from the opening kickoff, but after that it was all Port St. Lucie as the Pirates defeated La Costa Canyon 39-6 in the semifinal playoff of the 2011 Pop Warner Super Bowl in Orlando, Fla on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

The game was a contrast in styles, with the Pirates running a traditional Wing T Offense and 5-3 Defense while LCC featured a Spread and Offset I Offenses and 3-5 Defense, modified to counter a running offense. In the end Port St. Lucie ended with 290 yards total offense, all running, averaging 6.9 yards per play. LCC meantime had 83 yards running and 46 yards passing for a combined total of 129 yards.

The complete game was broadcast live, and replays are available on ESPN3. Click [HERE] to connect to the broadcast.

The Charging Mavericks (14-2) finish the season tied for 3rd in the nation witht the Stanley (NC) Blue Devils. It is believed to be the highest finish for a La Costa Canyon/San Dieguito Pop Warner program and the most number of wins for a single team in the association's 40+ year history. Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents of the Charging Mavericks Jr. Pee Wee team.

Port St. Lucie advances to the D2 JPW Super Bowl on Friday, Dec. 9 at 8:30am EST to face the Marsh Creek (PA) Eagles, which earlier defeated the Blue Devis 16-8.

JPW Charging Mavs Cheer Finishes 12th at Nationals

The Charging Mavericks Cheer Squad cheered their hearts out at the 2011 National Championships on Monday, Dec. 5, but came up a bit short, finishing 12th in a very competitive Jr. Pee Wee Medium-sized Novice skill level.

The top three squads were the Metuchen (NJ) Bulldogs, the Watchung Hills (NJ) Wolverines and the Fort Osage (Mo) Indians. The Nancy Bonnano-coached squad was the second-highest-placing Wescon team in the JPW Medium Novice division.

In reversed roles, the resting Charging Mavericks football team showed up in force to cheer on the LCCPW cheerleaders. It was their turn to echo what we all feel about the JPW cheerleaders - "We are proud of you, yes WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!"

Travel Fund Donation for LCCPW Champions heading to Florida!

We still need YOUR help! Three La Costa Canyon Pop Warner teams made it through Conference and Western Regional Championships and left it all on the field and mat at the national championships! Way to go Mavs!!!!

But this once-in-a-lifetime experience wasn't cheap and because you can't "plan" for this, the nearly $2,000-per-participant cost to attend disrupts a lot of families. More than one family has had to say "this is our Christmas."

Can you help these families out? They don't want a hand-out, just a hand if possible.

Donors may make a tax-deductible donation to either the General Travel Fund that benefits all three teams, or a Team Travel Fund benefitting one of the teams. Click on one of the Donation Buttons below to select the correct fund.

All donations are processed by PayPal using their industry-standard, secure, encrypted technology. At no time does LCCPW have a record of an individual's credit card or payment information.
