MISSION VIEJO PONY FAQ'S
Q: Does Mission Viejo Pony have All-Stars?
A: You bet. The highlight of our season is the All-Star competition and this year we are expecting several of our teams to get far along in the competition. All-Star teams are assembled for 8U - 14U players. Last year, our 8U All-Star team was named the Central Region Pony Champions of Orange County.
Q: Does the league have sponsors and fundraisers?
A: Yes, we partner with local vendors to support each other and the local community. We welcome all philanthropic sponsors who wish to help in our endeavor to provide a high quality youth baseball league.
Q: What does the league do with the funds you receive?
A: We provide many types of services that other leagues simply cannot afford to support. Our fundraisers and sponsors have given us the opportunity to buy brand new equipment, maintain fields and make improvements, purchase utility vehicles, operate tournaments, pay for All-Star competition, run clinics operated by professionals, host Opening Day ceremonies, establish an annual Cooperstown trip, provide scholarship programs and still have the ability to expand our league. You simply cannot operate a legitimate league without working with the local community and sponsors.
Q: Do high school coaches support Mission Viejo Pony baseball?
A: When we run our baseball camps we get support from top high school coaches from El Toro, Capistrano Valley, Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, Rancho Santa Margarita, JSerra and Aliso Viejo. On any given day, you might find Coach Chris Ashbach talking to our boys or Coach Bob Zamora sharing a drill with our players. Dave Hansen, the head batting coach of the Los Angeles Dodgers currently runs our baseball camps and has a son in our league. Coaches from Saddleback College are also involved in our league. You bet they support our league and have a high interest in our development!
Q: Does Mission Viejo Pony play in both the fall and spring?
A: Yes, in fact we run our Dave Hansen summer baseball camps and we absorb teams and players from local leagues who go dormant in the summer and fall. Last fall, Mission Viejo Pony had nearly 40 teams playing in our league.
Q: What are Mission Viejo Pony's plans for the future?
A: Mission Viejo Pony baseball is planning to expand our younger age groups from 5 years-old as well as our 15 and 16 year-old divisions to offer a solid baseball program for youth players to enjoy for several years.
Q: Is Mission Viejo Pony only for the very serious or elite players?
A: Mission Viejo Pony has set up our league to host two divisions within all age groups -- the National League (for more advanced players) and the American League (for players who are still developing and improving). We are not going to turn away players in younger age groups or selfishing build one division within the league for personal advancement of a board member or coach. We are going to develop ALL our players and watch the improvement happen over time in all divisions.
Q: What is the long term goal of Mission Viejo Pony baseball?
A: Our goal is make the playing experience one that is fun and challenging for the younger players and one that provides the opportunity for our mature players to excel at the high school level and beyond.
