Angels Pull Out a Win to End the Season!
On Saturday, August 8th, the Angels played their final doubleheader of the season against the defending champion Elmjack Blue Jays. In the first game, pitcher Ryan Ehrlich struggled with his control, hitting four batters on the way to a 16-1 loss, but the Angels would turn it around in game two.
Ace Derek Ledgin took the hill and pitched lights out, scattering five hits and four walks over seven strong shutout innings. Entering the bottom of the sixth, the score was tied at zero when lead-off hitter Freddy Menzel lined a single to right field. He was then bunted over to second base by catcher Brian Ferrantino and moved to third on a grounder to the right side by Mike Gammone. With two outs, Derek Ledgin stepped up to the plate with the chance to drive in the go-ahead run for himself, and he hit a sharp ground ball that ate up the second baseman. By the time he recovered and fired to first, Derek was there and Freddy was home, giving the Angels the 1-0 lead that they would hold onto to secure the victory.
Although this season has been rough for the Angels, this win is a huge boost to our confidence heading into the off-season. |
