The Nassau Yankees opened the 2009 season with an opening day victory over the Bronx Royals. The Yankees feature many new faces this year as 16 players from 2008 are not returning.  However, they have put together an outstanding crop of rookies to take their place, including current and former college players, and one former professional player.

Chris Vazquez, Andy Chou,  Will Peralta , and Jeremy Castillo will join veterans Kevin Connors, Jose Asmad and Jayson Rodriguez in the infield. Henry Fontalvo returns in the outfield and will play along side newcomers Kevin Hickey, Chris Vasquez, Joe Vaskas, Jeff Paulino, and Jeff Jiminez.  Behind the plate the Yanks player/coach Tom Foley will do the catching with new backstops Joe Guistino and Omar Ramos. The Yankees have veterans Brian LaMarr, Jay Guichard, Jose Martinez, and Kevin Salguero returning to the mound, and have added Nolan Quelix, Pat Schreck and Jon Hickey. Manager Ed LaMarr brings many years of pitching experience to the staff and will take the mound as a spot starter or long releiver.

The Yankees roster for 2009 has the balance and depth to be a winning combination. There are 7 players currently playing college ball at St Thomas, Concordia and Queensboro, while some of the veterans played at NY Tech, John Jay College, Stony Brook, Queens College and SUNY Farmingdale. These experienced players will work to make another post season appearance.

In 2008 the Yankees finished first among AA teams in wins during the regular season with 25. The offense ranked second in runs, batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. On the mound, the Yankees pitching staff led the league in ERA and strikeouts. The Yanks reached the playoffs and swept the Dodgers in the first round, but the championship dream was ended in the second round by an outstanding NY's Finest ballclub, who dominated the league all season.
