Shockers Grab First Win of Season by Beating River Cats Ace Nick Marqis

The Shockers were finally able to solve River Cats ace Nick Marqis, hanging on for a 5-4 win last Sunday at Masters College. The game was tight from the out-set, with neither team able to take more than a 2-run lead, and both teams receiving good pitching performances and flashing solid defense.

The Shockers were led on the mound by starter Trent Hoerman, who went 5 strong innings--allowing only 1 run on 5 hits, and striking out 4.

At the plate, 3B Troy Jemjemian went 2-3 with a HR and 2 runs scored, DH Vic Belz was 1-2 with 2 runs, RF John Travnick was 2-2 with a double and a run, and C Greg Borish drove in 3 runs.

Shockers closer Dalton Roderick came on in the 9th and shut the door on the River Cats despite allowing a double.

Marqis still managed to go 7 strong innings, allowing only 3 runs and striking out 12. Marqis has now made 3 starts against the Shockers in his career, striking out at least 12 hitters in each start.

With their first victory of the season in hand, the 1-1 Shockers head to El Cariso Park next Saturday to face the 0-2 Kings.
