Sox Continue Slump, Lose to LAST PLACE Royals
Let's go boys. Let's get back to playing White Sox baseball. Show the Royals how to play the game of baseball the RIGHT way, with RESPECT for the game this Sunday. A clean ass whooping is called for.
Positional Outlook
Catcher
- Johnny Reid will be the White Sox full time catcher. He brings defensive grit, solid game calling and a great arm. He'll be looking to return to his Summer 09' form at the plate. Johnny has 37 career hits, and 37 career walks.
Corner Infield
- Willie Keene will man First Base and see a bit of time in the Outfield as well. He will be in the middle of the order for the Sox and be looking to get MVP honors after coming in 2nd and just missing out on it to teammate Jeremey Arbiso. He hit .426 with 13 RBI and 6 doubles in his first PCBL season.
- Mark Samuelson, a big natural First Baseman will also see time at the position, along with some DH time. He will bring his GBL experience into the heart of the order for the Sox. Has a career .468 Avg in the PCBL.
- Jon Tripp will be handling the Hot Corner for the White Sox. He will also fill in behind the dish for Johnny Reid from time to time if he needs it. Jon has a career .351 Avg and is the all-time Sox leader with 23 RBI's. Look for him to make a run at the team RBI lead for the second straight season.
- Ben Lebovitz will see time at both 1B and 3B. He has no defensive range, but he led the team with 2 HR's last season and is a career .351 hitter, the Sox got to put him somehwere!...just kidding Ben....but seriously
Middle Infield
- Joe Reid will see most of the time at SS for the Sox. The former Cardinals manager is a big addition to the Sox defensively and offensively. Expect big numbers from Joe in the middle of the order. Joe rarely strikes out and has a lifetime .367 PCBL Avg with 72 career hits.
- Omar Rose will see time at mulitiple positions during the Fall including 2B, 3B and OF. Rose is an outstanding team guy and just straight up gritty ball player. Omar hit a career high .513 in his first PCBL season.
- Ron Palusso is a baseball vet looking to get back onto the field. He'll see most of his time at 2B, but could see time elsewhere.
Outfield
- Jeff Grampp will see time at all 3 OF positions. He's a top of the order hitter who gets on base with regularity. Historically one of the Sox most clutch hitters. Saw his numbers drop off this Summer after a .463 AVG and 11 RBI's last Spring. Look for him to rebound.
- Jeff Miller will play LF and CF for the Sox. He has great range defensively and is the Sox all-time hits leader with 26 while holding a .426 career Avg.
- Nick Nelson will take over an OF spot in the Sox lineup, seeing time in both LF and CF. He's a huge left-handed bat in a righty heavy Sox lineup. Brings lots of fire to the field, Sox will look to him as a spark. Nick has a career line of .282 Avg, with 60 hits and 44 RBI.
- Bryan Ziebelman will see time all over the field, the majority likely being in RF. A solid baseball mind will look to translate his high baseball IQ into success on the field.
- Jimmy Rollins. No not that Jimmy, but comparable in speed. A solid outfielder with a good bat will see plenty of time in all OF spots. Jimmy is a career .318 PCBL hitter.
Pitching - Someone has to take the bull by the horns and carry this team on the bump, who will it be??
Jeff Miller - The Sox Ace from two seasons ago, has logged 71 IP in the PCBL with 6 wins and a 4.02 ERA. Must use his offspeed to the best of his ability and hit his spots to be successful.
Jeff Grampp - This lefty has thrown 35 IP with a 4.11 ERA in the PCBL. Threw a complete game to get the Sox their 1st Championship in the Summer. Has spot on control, must continue to work on his "stuff" to get the Sox back to the Ship.
Ben Lebovitz - A solid reliever and Closer for the Sox threw 7 innings last season with a 2.57 ERA. Throws a dirty cutter, but must get fully healthy to contribute this fall.
Joe Reid - A natural pitcher with recent arm struggles, Joe will attempt to ease himself back into the role. Has had success on the mound in the PCBL and could be a valuable contributer in the pen for the Sox.
Omar Rose - Has 12 wins, 140 IP and a 2.12 ERA in his PCBL career. Another guy coming off recent injury will look to reutrn to form and pitch in solid innings for the Sox. Could be the dark horse on the bump.
Season Opener: Sunday, October 31st....9am Los Alamitos v. La Onda
