2009 Rum River Bandits |
Amateur Season's Over - See You Next Year! Town ball is over for the 2009 season as the state tournament ended on Labor Day in Arlington. The Bandits third season was a tough one, as injuries and roster changes took their toll. As the injuries mounted up, players were forced to play out of their best positions, leading to a record number of errors. Throw in a league leading number of walks, and the record speaks for itself. But even with that, the Bandits were only one win from the Region 1C Tournament and tied 0 - 0 heading into the 6th inning with a chance to win.
4 Bandits were drafted and Blake Karas (Big Lake White Caps), Mike Koplitz (Big Lake White Caps) and Kevin Auth (Forest Lake Brewers) elected to play. Kevin advanced to the state tournament and really enjoyed the experience. It is truly an honor to be drafted, to help a metro Minny League team advance as far as they can. Thank you to Blake, Mike and Kevin for your dedication and for taking advantage of a great opportunity! Who knows what's around the corner for next year? Every year at this time, player movement is a hot topic, as the grass is always greener somewhere else. Rumors of new teams starting up, players moving on to another team, and players stepping down are rampant in every community in Minnesota that supports a team. This has been happening since 1924 in Minnesota and will continue to generate excitement, doubt and hope in 2010 and the years to come!
