Pucks FINALLY get their first win...against the first place Ducks.Apparently the firing of Ken Hitchcock didn't motivate just the CBJ. Rusty Pucks hit the ice against the undefeated Ducks and played a heavy, gritty game and it finally paid off when they defeated the undefeated Ducks.
Scoring started at about the half way mark of the first period when Sean Rice knocked a Scott Henderson rebound past Ducks netminder Donny McMillen while both teams were at 4 on 4. Two minutes later the Ducks tied it up on a even strength goal.
A minute after the tying goal Dave Pollock assisted on Sean Rice's SECOND goal of the evening! YES, YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY Sean Rice netted TWO goals in this evening's game and thereby became the Pucks leading scoreer.
With four seconds left in the second period rookie Scott Stanton potted his first (of many more to come) goal to give the Pucks a two goal lead heading into the third period.
It wouldn't be until there was a minute and four second left in the third period that the Ducks would get there second and final goal of the game.
Brian "Baby Face, Rusty" Ashworth was denied his first even penalty shot with 2:15 left in the game when it was decided that it would be better for the Ducks to lose a man and have to play 3 on 3 for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately when the Ducks went up 4 on 3 they scored their second goal. Sorry Baby Face.
Penalties were had a plenty by both teams with the Pucks edging out the Ducks 7 - 5 on visits to the sin bin.
Join us next week when the Pucks visit Chris Taza's former team the Organ Donors at 10:30PM at Dublin. CWAP, another game of midnight hockey. Oh well, that just means we have to drink faster after the game at BW3 afterward. |
