2011 Sleepy Eye Indians

INDIANS ARE STATE BOUND!! 

 

In a 9th inning 2 out bases loaded thriller Sleepy Eye secured a trip to the State Amatuer Tournament!  Lamberton scored 2 runs in the first inning  on  a Sleepy  Eye error ,a few walks and a hit.


The pitchers dual kept the game close with Matt Ganglehoff on the mound for Sleepy Eye and Johnny Pistulka throwing for Lamberton.  

 
In relief  there were two pitchers balks called one on Milbreth (The Longsox draft pick from Springfield ) and one against Ty Kaus( Indians draft pick from St. James) each  when runs were in scoring position.  The first balked tied the game for Sleepy Eye with Scott Salfer scoring making it a tie game 3-3. In the next inning with bases loaded they retaliiated with Lamberton recapurting the lead.  Lamberton tacked on a few more runs.

 
Feeling like they had a comfortable lead going into the 9th Lamberton was still leading  6-3.  A costly first error for Lamberton by Colby Pack put   Woitas on the base , with walks and hits  scoring  runs making the score 6-5. With 2 outs and bases loaded Scott Salfer was up to bat. He hit a shallow fly to center field out of reach of both the shortstop and outfielder scoring 2 runs to put Sleepy Eye up 7-6 thus winning the battle.  

 
Game Highlights were Andrew Woitas diving catch in left field. Joey Walters double play throw in to Cody at Home preventing a run. Jake Bohnen, Derek Nachriner to Justin Helget double play. Excellent pitching from Matt Ganglehoff, and Tyler Kaus.  Andrew Woitas earns the win on the Mound.


Sleepy Eye had 3 errors,  10 hits, 7 runs to end the game.  Salfer was 4-4 on the night, plus a sac bunt. Both Alan and Andrew Woitas had 2 hits.  Nathan Kral, Jake Bohen  were hit by pitches  to help the rally's in the ballgame.
 


Sleepy Eye now  plays Hanska for Region championship Matt Helget will be on the mound. The win earns Sleepy Eye a trip to State. Way to go.
