SELECTS ALUMNI PLAYERS

The Windsor Star  February 27, 2010

DE LONG TO START

Windsor native Mike De Long will get the start today on the mound for the West Texas A & M baseball team.

De Long is set to oppose No. 8 ranked Abilene Chrisitian University.

"I'm looking forward to having a successful year on the mound and hopefully being drafted this year," the Assumption graduate said in an e-mail.

De Long played for Henry Ford Junior College last season. His contacts with the Majors led to a full-ride offer from the West Texas Buffalos, an NCAA Division II member of the Lone Star Conference.

The Buffalos originally envisioned him as the team's closer but have since inserted him in the starting rotation. "I'll have to focus on pitching rather than just throwing hard," he said.

SIMONE PLAYER OF WEEK

Amherstburg's Brian Simone of the University of West Alabama was named Gulf South Conference East Division player of the week.

Simone led his team to a 4-1 week, including a series win at Lynn University.

The junior was 10-for-20 with six runs and six RBIs.

Simone earns his first career honour in the same week he was named honourable mention to National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's all-Canadian college team.

Little  Inks  Pro  Contract

Former Wayne State University left-handed pitcher Dane Little of Windsor signed his first professional baseball contract with the Amarillo Dillas, an independent team in Texas playing in the United League.
