About the Waverly-Shell Rock Dance Team



Welcome! The Waverly-Shell Rock Dance Team is made up of a unique and talented group of students dedicated to supporting their fellow classmates and community.

The primary mission of the dance team is to support the athletic teams, assist in motivating the crowd, entertain the audience at games and other school functions, and to promote overall school spirit. The team is also responsible for fostering a sense of community spirit and cooperation through public appearances and volunteer work.

The dance team performs at football games, basketball games, wrestling meets and other community events. As a member of the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association (ISDTA), the team participates and competes in the ISDTA Solo and Team Competitions in addition to other regional championships. The Waverly-Shell Rock Dance Team Best of the Best was a huge success!

Thank you to dance team parents for making it happen-we couldn't have done it without your help! To Ben, Paul & Bret for hosting and Nate for running lights and music-you were awesome. To Kelsey, Jordan, Brianna, Jordyn, Kiersten, & Jenna for volunteering your
time to help the show run smoothly, thanks!. And, to the Wartburg Dance Team, Cedar Falls Dance Team, WSR Colorguard, Jr. Go-Hawk Girls, Dancing and to the All-Male Dance
Team for performing -- You all ROCK! Thank you to Associate Principal David Fox for supporting and attending Best of the Best! Special thanks to Waverly John Deere Implement, My Dress-Up Shop, Joyce Sullivan, Linda Pearce, Eric Mason, Anytime Fitness and Pat Colsch for donating items to our Silent Auction. To Brenda Mundell for donating balloons - thanks! And, thank you to Joyce, Linda, Susan Tejebkes, Lynn Darnold,
and Robin Mason for donating cookies and to McDonald's for donating juice to the kids clinic.

Congratulations to the dance team for a terrific 2010-2011 season and an awesome
spring showcase. Best of luck to the class of 2010! Leah, Lauren, Kaylee, Kyra,
Lauren, Katie and Beth Ann -- we'll miss you!

2010-2011 Dance Team Auditions

The Waverly-Shell Rock Dance Team will hold tryouts for all 2010-2011 teams March 11, 12, 16, 18, and 19 with a final and formal audition on March 20.


Team members are required to attend all scheduled practices and performances throughout their respective seasons. In addition, ALL team members will be asked to
attend a 1 to 2-day dance clinic and possibly appear in area parades this summer.
Please note you may not participate in an athletic activity, cheerleading or color guard during the same season in which you are participating in dance.


In order to tryout, you must attend all tryout practices and the formal tryout. Participants should wear black dance pants, shorts or capris, a plain white tank top (no t-shirts) and proper shoes both days. You will be required to demonstrate a short pom, kick & hip-hop routine, a toe touch, splits on both sides, a double turn, leap and other skills. All these items will be taught and/or briefly reviewed at tryout practices.


Please fill out the forms availble in high school office and turn in to the dance team coach on Thursday, March 11 at the first tryout practice. Parents must read through all attached information and sign the attached form. Dancers will not be able to tryout unless a parent or guardian has signed the attached form.
