CAN AM SERIES KITCHENER, ONTARIO, CANADA
DECEMBER 9-11, 2011
Another amazing series of competitive North American Hockey. The girls were fortunate to play against some of the worlds best players for their age. With a little more experience against top level teams, the girls battled strongly and made many improvements against the older stronger girls. Monica, our goalie led our team again averaging 40+ saves per game. The NAHA white team featuring 3 of our Alaska All Stars, won the 19 Tourney Championships, The NAHA Red team with two of our athletes took 2nd, after going 4-0 for the U17 Class.
Game 1 vs. Kitchener Rangers Morgan for 1, getting legs, good battles L3-1
Game 2 vs. Ottawa Senators, late game 3 goals in 2 minutes, played rest well L3-0
Game 3 vs. Toronto Aeros Fast, furious game 1-0 at end of 2nd- hung on for L3-0 great skating!
Game 4 vs. Waterloo Ravens U17 team came out flat and tired, all the girls were out of gas. L 6-0
Game 5 vs. Stoney Creek Sabres U17 -0-0 til the end of 3rd, L2-0 in tough battle
We started the trip with a long flight, drive from Buffalo and a visit to the Canadian Side Niagara falls. Colored lights on the booming falls made it a memorable expereince, dinner at the falls and arrival to Kitchener by midnight, Girls did a great job managing the 4 hour time change, jet lag and travel exhaustion to come out hard for the full 1.5 hour games. The return trip to Buffalo included another stop at the falls on the American side in the bright sunshine. A little shopping was done and the long weekend ended at the ANC airport with a massive snowstorm and 1am arrival Monday. Kids were excited that Monday was a snow day off from school to catch up on some much needed rest. Another great adventure and competitive tourney
Attendees: Bartenstein, Blizzard, Elvin, Fletcher, Herman, Millar, Newhouse, Rush, Rutka, Tolan, Weeks, Roberts, Elkins. Coaches: Hickel, McCarrey
