------- Hopkins in Baltimore City thriller -------

BALTIMORE, MD (Feb. 5) -- Sophomore John Ambrose (SIS '13) may be a stay at home defenseman, but his game-winning goal with only thirty seconds remaining spelled victory for the visiting American University Eagles. The Eagles are now set to enter the MDCHA postseason tournament on a high note after their 3-2 win over the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays. Third-seeded AU will faceoff against second-seeded Wesley College in the divisional quarterfinal on Friday, February 11 at the historic Hershey Park Arena.

--------- unbeaten versus D-II schools in 2010   ---------

ASHBURN, VA (Nov. 19) -- American University made the most of its visit to Northern Virginia by shutting out the George Mason Patriots by a score of 6-0. Strong goaltending from Steinhauser and Cotter coupled with an effective powerplay boosted the Eagles. This win, along with September's upset over George Washington make the Eagles 2-0 against D-II opponents. George Mason competes in the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference and GWU plays in the ACCHL.

---------- University of Maryland, 9-6  ----------

WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 13) -- Despite owning a 3-0 lead early in the first period, and entering the third tied 5-5, American let another one slip away. Sloppy defensive zone coverage was mainly to blame for the Eagles horrid second half. AU looks to rebound the following weekend with a non-league visit to George Mason (D-II) followed by a matinee rematch against Maryland at the Gardens Ice House in Laure, MDl on Saturday (2:30PM).

AROUND THE LEAGUE -- Wesley College was forced to forfeit Sunday's game against Mount St. Mary's after it was determined the team used ineligble players.

---------- Johns Hopkins University  ----------

WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 12) -- The Eagles made the most of their homecoming after a grueling, 1 - 3 roadtrip by defeating Johns Hopkins 9-2. Captain Seth Pfeifer (MSFS '11) also made the most of his first game following a month-long hand injury by opening the scoring less than two minutes in. Shay Longtain continued his dominance over opposing defences with a 5-goal night.

  ----------   past Gettysburg 4-3 in overtime  ----------

YORK, PA (Oct. 30) -- Playing 3 on 3, Shay Longtain set up sophomore defenseman David Brenton for the game winner in overtime. Senior John Arturo also finished the game with two goals. The Eagle's Grant Steinhauser and freshman David Cotter were both remarkable between the pipes. Interestingly enough, this was the very first game in which sophomore Shay Longtain failed to record a goal while playing for American. The Eagles continue their road trip next weekend with visits to Mount St. Mary's and Wesley College.
