Cortland State Ends Season With A Fight, C Kyle Smith Elected To National All-Star Game In Michigan

The Red Dragons had their season ended in a way that would like to forget this past weekend in Wyomissing, PA.  The NECHL playoffs commenced on 2/19 as the Red Dragons had a quarter-final matchup vs. Oswego State, a repeat of last years playoffs.  And what do you know, another great battle was given to the fans once more as the game was close to whole way through.  Cortland State got the scoring started early about five minutes in by Jeremy Fitzgerald and that would be a while until the red light was lit once more.  Second period came around and once more, Jeremy Fitzgerald put the puck past the Oswego state goalie to give Cortland State some cushion.  Third period came around and Oswego State would make the game interesting scoring early to make the game 2-1.  Just after that though, Cortland State C Kyle Smith fired a puck from the blue line without hesitation and Joe Laffin tipped the puck into the net to conceal the victory and a match-up with Rutgers University on 2/20 at 5pm.  The Rutgers game would be of the same stature, a close 3-1 game, unfortunately this one didn't end up in Cortland State's favor.  Cortland got down 2-0 after two periods until the third period came around and Paul Chamberlain netted his first of the playoffs to make it 2-1.  Unfortunately with 6 minutes left, a call not in Cortland's favor was made that gave the Red Scarlet Ice Knights a 5 minute major to pretty much conceal the game.  Cortland ends the season with a 12-8-2 record with a close record of 105 goals for.

With other news, C Kyle Smith of Cortland State has been elected to the ACHA Division 1 All-Star Game in Adrian, Michigan.  The game will take place at Arrington Ice Arena on March 20th.
