Hounds complete best season in team history

 

After an exciting week of hockey in Holland, Michigan, the Loyola Greyhounds were able to come away from the ACHA Division 3 National Tournament with a 1-2 record, placing 12th in the tournament of the top 16 teams in the country. After a rough start to the tournament losing to the reigning champions Saginaw Valley by a score of 7-0, the Hounds fell just short to the subsequent national champions of the tournament, College of the Canyons, by a score of 5-4 in pool play. The Hounds were able to come away with a win in their last game of the tournament, defeating Fredonia State by a score of 3-2. During the tournament, seniors Thomas Lindberg, Luke Lavoie, and Ed Armellino were named as All-Stars and competed in the All-Star Game taking place on Saturday night before the Championship game. The Loyola Greyhounds completed the 2010-11 hockey season with a 25-7-2-2 record, winning the BRHC Colonial Division Regular Season title and clinching the League Championship for the second season in a row. Several Greyhounds also earned individual honors as a result of their performance during the season. Winning All-Colonial Honors included: Ben York, named the Colonial Division MVP and All-Colonial Forward; Phil Fusco, All-Colonial Forward; Matt Tenaglia, All-Colonial Second-Line Defense; Kevin Lindberg, named Colonial Division Goaltender of the year; and Coach Rich Galasso, named Colonial Division Coach of the Year. For a complete list of BRHC awards, Click Here. The Hounds are excited to have five team members represented for league awards and congratulate them on their efforts this season.

The final event taking place for the Hounds this season takes place on March 26th, where the Loyola Alumni take on the current team members at 1:00pm at Ice World in Bel Air, Maryland. Graduating from the team this year include seniors Luke Lavoie, Thomas Lindberg, James McCawley, Ryan McInerney, Jon Meoli and Chris Silard. The Hounds thank these seniors for their four years of dedication to the team and the development of the Club Ice Hockey program, and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

The Loyola University Greyhounds Club Ice Hockey team would also like to thank all of the support that every family member and friend has given over the course of this past season. Without the tremendous help and dedication of all Hounds fans, the season would not have been successful and rewarding as it has proven to be. The Hounds look forward to next year's hockey season, looking to again finish with the best season in team history and to strive to reach their ultimate goal, becoming the Best Team in America.

Hounds at Nationals

 
After defeating conference opponent Richmond University and claiming the League title at the BRHC League Championships for the second year in a row, the Loyola Greyhounds travel to Holland, MIchigan to compete in the ACHA Division 3 National Tournament. The Hounds first take the ice on Tuesday for a brief warm-up skate, and compete in their first National game against Saginaw Valley on Wednesday, 3/9, at 10:15am. The Hounds continue pool play on Thursday, taking on College of the Canyons at 4:00pm, and finish the round robin play on Friday, 3/11, as they take on Fredonia at 9:15am.
