Blaze (10-1) upset previously undefeated, defending Southern Plains Football League champion, Sioux Empire Crusaders (10-1) Saturday evening 34-21 to win their 6th championship in their 11th season.
"Obviously a hard-fought game and a great win,” Said Head Coach Tyrone Tyler. “Great to overcome some adversity before the biggest game of the season and get one step closer to our goal.”
Des Moines hosts the Med City Freeze (7-2) in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final this Saturday at the Spring Creek Sports Complex in Altoona. The winner advances to the SPFL Championship.
The Des Moines Blaze (7-1) locked up the top seed in the SPFL Eastern Division last Saturday with a convincing 41-0 victory against the North Iowa Bucks (5-3). 
The Blaze (6-1) finish up their regular season at the North Iowa Bucks (4-2) this Saturday. A win will guarantee a number one seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  
“We’re focused on executing and getting better every week at this point,” said Head Coach Tyrone Tyler. “We like where we’re at but we know we haven’t peaked.
"The defense continued doing what they've done all season and the offense was finally able to open up a little and show some balance."
"It was a good win, considering the conditions," said Head Coach Tyrone Tyler. "One of these days, hopefully, we'll get some decent weather and be able to open things up a little offensively.
"We left some points out there. The defense did a phenomenal job. Over the first two weeks, Coach (Cale) Carlson really has them dialed in," said Head Coach Tyrone Tyler.
