GM Ricky Saili decided to trade down to sixth pick in the draft to get the coveted back to back picks and he (surprisingly) selected snipers Jason Gogna and Sufyaan Kazi. While many expected him to take older brother Vikram with his first pick, he managed to get him in the 3rd round to solidify his defence. Without a doubt, this team can put up goals and play well on the back end. The concern here is if goaltender Mohammed Ingar can be on his game. The Jets are filled with past champions and hope to rack up the points with a good mix of skill, speed and size. This is definitely a team that can go all the way with the experience, depth and chemistry they have.

With the first overall pick, there was no doubt that the Bruins would be one of the teams to beat. GM Suhaib Shaikh selected top goaltender AK Patel to solidify his squad, while selecting Sharukh Shah to protect the back line beside him. With the back end covered, the real question is who will be putting up the goals? With Arif Hansold leading the offence, there are major concerns with who can help this team provide secondary scoring. Nonetheless, past seasons have proved that Defence wins championships and this is clearly a team that can win it all if goaltender AK can stand on his head when his team can’t put up the goals.

GM Abdul Manjra returns to the Falcons and made a draft day deal to secure third overall pick. The former GM of the year wasted no time and drafted former Art Ross winner Yusuf Ingar. With the offence looking great, the next pick was goaltender Abbas Shaikh who is very capable of stealing games from time to time. Later round picks such as Navdeep Virdi and Sufyaan Shaikh clearly showed that GM Abdul was looking to build a veteran core who has won in the past. The Falcons have one of the deepest rosters in the league and have little liabilities which goes a long way in MMGL. This team is a serious threat to win it all if they are able to build some chemistry on the back end. With a team filled with past Verdi Cup winners, will GM Abdul finally be able to lift the cup? Don’t be surprised if they do.

For GM Musa, it was a simple draft plan: Scarborough. Unfortunately for him, other GM’s were ready to poach his picks. Though he did manage to grab sniper Shadab Patel, questions will be asked about the Sharks secondary scoring and defence. But as we have seen in the past, Musa is more than capable of carrying a team on his shoulders. With the help of Mohammed Bashir Patel in between the pipes, this team could potentially steal some low scoring games. Veterans Sadiq Patel and Zakaria Manjra provide great experience, but will it be enough to put this team over the top?  Expect this team to be active on the trade front to become real contenders for the cup.

With Captain Khan sitting out this season, it will be interesting to see the Nordiques with new GM Syed Ahmed. With his first pick, he drafted veteran Shoaib Rangrez who has proven to be solid on both ends of the rink. Surprisingly, GM Syed decided to take Aziz Patel with his second pick, much to the dismay of Sharks GM Musa. Though this team might not be the flashiest on paper, it is filled with MMGL veterans who know how to win. Questions will be asked about the strength of their goaltending with Kaleem Mirza in net, but expect this team to be in a lot of close games. Rumors are swirling that GM Syed is active on the trade front. If he can pull a few strings and add some secondary help on both ends, this could become the deepest roster in the league.

Rookie GM Huzaifa Panchbaya selected second overall and went with current Art Ross winner Rahman Rana forming a talented 1-2 punch that could light up the lamp. Following the trend of other GMs, the second pick for the Hawks was goaltender Rizwan Khanji who is returning from injury and looking to regain his form from past seasons. Though the Hawks look to have their Offence and Goaltending solved, it is anyone’s guess as to who will be playing defence on this team. Even if they are able to put up lots of goals, will they be able to shut it down on the backend? Expect this team to make a few deals before the deadline to bolster their squad and create some depth in the lineup. If they can hold it down on defense, this team could make a deep run into the playoffs.
