MLFA MESSAGE BOARD

2008
Central States Football League joins MLFA

2007

King County Jaguars win the West 29 to 0 over the Blue Mountain Stars

King County Jaguars

2007 MLFA West National Champions

The 2007 MLFA West National Championship game was the first time these two undefeated and nationally ranked teams met on the gridiron.  The Blue Mountain Stars and the King County Jaguars battled for the Minor League Football Association West National Championship and for bragging rights as the best minor-league football team in the Pacific Northwest. This game turned out to be the dogfight that the hype leading up to the game said it would be. However, in the end, it was the King County Jaguar defense that once again dominated on the field, shutting out the Blue Mountain Stars 29-0.

The first series by both teams was a defensive battle with both teams stopping each others offense, but then the Jaguar defense kicked in as they gang tackled the Stars leading rusher Brandon Tate causing Tate to leave the remainder of the game with an ankle injury and thus forced the Stars to punt. With just under four minutes remaining in the first quarter Stars, Jesus Solis, punted a beautiful 40 yard kick. Unfortunately for the Stars, the ball landed directly in the awaiting arms of Jaguar punt returner, Carlos Clark, who caught the punt on the fly and began running down the right sideline. Clark reversed direction at mid field and returned the ball 55 yards down the left sideline for the Jaguars first touchdown. Jaguars 6 Stars 0.

In the second quarter the Jaguars offense turned up the heat by going to the air.  Jaguar QB James Phillips on a 3rd and 8 completed a pass down the middle hitting Jaguar WR Michael Bush in stride for a 60 yard touchdown.  On the next Jaguar possession Phillips does it again, this time airing it out to Jaguar WR Carlos Clark for a 68 yard touchdown catch.  The Jaguars go for two and RB Andre Edwards darts in bringing the Jaguars to a commanding lead of 20-0.

On the ensuing Jaguar kickoff the football bounced off of a Stars kick returner and bounced out of bounds at the Stars 15 yard line. The following play saw Jaguar LB Willie ‘The Hitstick’ Stewart sack Stars QB Demmarcus for what looked like a safety but the Stars QB was ruled down at the one yard line.  That didn’t save the Stars because on the very next play Jaguar DE Shawn Corbett, running with a full head of steam, raced around the Stars offensive line and blind sided QB Demmarcus for the sack and the two point safety. Jaguars go up 22-0 before the half.

In the second half the Stars made scoring attempts on several drives, but the Jaguars stiffened their defense and held the Stars offense to zero.

The King County Jaguars overall 2007 record grows to 14-0 tying the Jaguars own best for the most wins in a season. The Jaguars last 14 win season was in 2005 when the Jaguars finished 14-1 and were voted the number one team in the West.

The Champion King County Jaguars move on and will next host an at large regional champion from either California or Texas on Saturday October 20th at Auburn High School in Auburn WA. Check the Jaguars website at www.kcjags.com for updates on times and locations to see more exciting Jaguar football.
