Lady Dons Best Mustangs in 2 Decisive Sets 10/15/2009Pleasanton, CA � Monte Vista�s freshman team started off in the lead, but Haley Traynor�s bump for a kill at 3-9 (Mustangs) was the turning point for the Dons. Amber Wright took over the serve and dealt the Mustangs 12 unanswered points. Wright served 1 ace, while Andrea Larson and Sara Cohen both had a powerful kills at the net. The score moved forward, and Larson took over the serve at 18-13 (Dons) with a powerful ace. Larson�s serves were flat and hard, and Monte Vista had a hard time returning them. At 22-13 (Dons), the whole lady Dons team had a great series of saves capped by a heads-up kill by Wright. Sara Cohen took over the serving at 24-14 to take the Dons to the finish, 25-14 Amador.
In game 2, Monte Vista appeared refreshed as they again came out in the lead. The two teams had a difficult time at the service line early on in the game, and traded points and serves, when Nadia Padilla took over service at 4-6 (Mustangs). Padilla delivered some of her best serves yet with 2 aces. A great set of plays by Larson helped pull the Dons ahead 7-6. Traynor took over service at 8-7 (Dons), and pounded line drives at the Mustangs with one ace, and tough-to-return serves. 2 great kills at the net by Brianna Day moved the Lady Dons ahead 13-7. Monte Vista briefly took over the serve, but another kill by Day at the net brought service to the Don�s Larson at 14-9 (Dons). A nice net-kill by Alyssa Lubow kept Amador pushing forward. At 17-9, Monte Vista got the side out, and started moving the scoreboard in their direction. The score made it to 18-15, when a kill at the net by Erica Norton brought the serve back to Amador to stay. Brianna Day launched consistent serves, and the Don�s defense engaged in long hard rallies against the Mustangs (spike-kill at the net by Traynor was a stand-out play). After 6 unanswered points, the set was over, 24-15 Amador to win the set and match.
