Amador Adds Another Win

SAN RAMON, CA. Amador Valley (21-7, 9-0 EBAL) swept the California Grizzlies 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 to remain on top of the East Bay Athletic League. Everyone on the Amador team played and contributed in the win. Senior hitter Nikki Baker posted a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs. Junior hitter Rachel Kinnard led the Dons with 15 digs and added 5 kills.

The Dons have been starting matches well and jumped out to a 7-1 lead after back-to-back kills by Baker. Senior middle Jessica Atkins served three points in-a-row to give Amador a 17-8 lead and senior opposite Emily Pease added a kill at 18-9. Kinnard ended the set at 25-15 with a well placed kill.

In the second set the teams traded leads. Baker�s kill gave the Dons a 5-4 lead, but Cal rallied back and went ahead 9-6. Amador caught them at 10-10 after a kill by senior middle Grace Vickers and took a 13-11 lead after a kill by Baker. Cal came back to tie the set at 14-14 and led 18-15 after acing the Dons twice. Amador rallied to tie the set at 18-18 after a block by Kinnard and senior middle Kaytlin Doherty. A kill by freshman Kristina Dunworth tied the set at 19-19. Junior opposite Becca Malmrose sparked a late Don rally with a three point service run on an ace, a solo block by Vickers and a kill by Baker to give the Dons a 23-20 lead. Vickers and junior setter Kelsey Williams sealed the win, 25-22, with a block.

Williams served three points in-a-row to give the Dons a 9-3 lead in the third set and a kill by Atkins and two by junior outside Eryn Powers put the Dons ahead 13-7. Cal managed to cut the Amador lead to 18-15, but the Dons responded with a kill by Atkins and a jump-serve ace by Baker to extend the Amador lead to 20-15. Atkins aced Cal for a 23-16 lead and the Dons finished with a kill from the middle by Doherty and a kill by Powers to give the Dons set and match, 25-17.

Amador has only lost two sets in league play and will host San Ramon on Thursday.
