The Dons collar the Wolves in a 2-game match!
10/22/2009Pleasanton, CA – The opening point of the first game was an indicator of the great match to come, as the Wolves and Dons battled with great saves and a long rally, with the Wolves first on the scoreboard. Sara Cohen brought the serve to Amador with a huge spike for a kill. Andrea Larson opened service for the Dons, taking the score quickly to 4-1. San Ramon fought back with great serves of their own, and the Wolves took over 4-7. The Dons earned their side out with another great rally ended by a Brianna Day kill at the net. Cohen’s line-drive serves to the back court, including an ace gained 2 more Don points, and tied the score at 7-7. San Ramon’s next serve was denied by a Cohen dig to a Larson set and an Amber Wright STUFF for the kill. Amador’s Zandi Wesenberg came to the line with consistent, hard-to-return serves. Haley Traynor and Wright were powerful at the net, and the score moved to 11-8 (Dons). Wright had an amazing game, as she continued to slam the ball down to the Wolves’ floor. She also served up 4 consecutive points, including an ace. Traynor earned the Dons two points with a tip roll-over and a spike kill. The score moved up for the Dons, as their team play kept the Wolves at bay. Day had a nice tip-kill at the net, and Yael Sendler had some great karma going with her lucky tip and roll-over the net for a kill. Sendler’s service brought the game to a close, 25-19 (Dons).
Game 2 was another exciting one to watch, as the teams had very evently matched play. Holly Hafford served up a nice ace, Traynor had another front line kill and Alyssa Lubow made a great block at the net as the score bounced back and forth to 7-8 (Wolves). Wright made a great save, and Traynor followed up with a run up the Amador bleachers for an unbelievable save that brought the serve back to the Dons. Larson’s serves brought the score to 9-10 (Wolves), but San Ramon got the side out. At 9-12, Erica Norton’s kill brought the service back to Amador. Alyssa Lubow was amazing at the service line with seven consecutive points and 3 aces (she followed up a mid-service time out with two of her aces). With the score at 17-13, San Ramon took over service and tied the game up at 17-17. Hafford’s service with a spike by Wright pulled Amador ahead to 19-17, but the Wolves took over again, and the score progressed to 19-22, as the Don’s cheering squad starting biting their nails! Norton’s kill at the net brought the serve back to the Dons, but the Wolves held their ground and the score moved to 20-23. Wright’s huge spike pulled the Dons to 21-23, and Wright took over at the serve. She had a noteworthy match, as her powerful, flat serves took the Dons to the win, when Traynor ended the game with a decisive kill. Final score 25-23 Dons, game and match.
