San Ramon is the Dons Latest Victim

PLEASANTON, CA. � Amador Valley knocked off the San Ramon Wolves, 25-10, 25-20, 25-13, to remain unbeaten in the EBAL. The Dons (22-7, 10-0 EBAL) were led by seniors Grace Vickers and Nikki Baker who combined for 24 kills. Junior setter Kelsey Williams had 28 assists and 14 digs while senior libero Cassie Hahn contributed 11 digs.

In the first set, the Dons took a 7-4 lead after a block by senior middle Jessica Atkins and junior opposite Eryn Powers. Atkins served four points in-a-row to give the Dons a 14-7 lead and junior opposite Becca Malmrose added five service points in-a-row to open up a 20-8 Don lead. Two kills by junior hitter Rachel Kinnard, one by Baker and blocks by Williams and Vickers highlighted the rally. Amador won comfortably 25-10 after a San Ramon hit went into the net.

The Dons struggled a bit in the second set and tied the set at 11-11 after a Wolve error. The set was tied eight more times before Amador took the lead for good at 20-19. The Dons finished strong with Vickers killing an overpass at 21-19, a kill by Baker at 22-20, another kill by Baker with a great one-armed save for an assist from senior middle Kaytlin Doherty at 24-20. Baker ended the set with another kill to win the set 25-20.

Amador�s momentum carried over into the third set as the Dons played well. Kinnard served three points in-a-row to give the Dons a 5-1 lead. The Dons scoring came from kills by Baker and Vickers and a block by Williams and Vickers. Vickers added five service points in-a-row as the Dons surged ahead 11-2. An ace by Baker and kills by Eryn Powers and senior opposite Emily Pease extended the Amador lead to 16-4. Williams had a tip kill at 22-12. Atkins kill from the middle gave the Dons a 24-13 lead and a San Ramon hitting error ended the set at 25-13.

Amador travels to Livermore High for a Tuesday night match next week.
