JV Lady Dons extend win streak to 8
10/22/2009
SRV took an early 2-0 lead, but then Laura Zollars smashed a kill, and Tara Shreve scored the next point to tie the score at 3-3. Amador continued the scoring spree with an ace by Rachel Cilk, and kill by Jessica Averill (off a nice set by Cassis Carnio). After SRV closed the gap to 6-4, Shannon Butler executed a nice dig, which Carino set to the left side for another kill. The lady dons then grew the score to 10-5 with Shreve serving, which included a huge block by Emily Diggins. San Ramon continued the play tough and tightened the score at 14-13. However, with Nicolle Woo making some great saves in the backcourt (including a misdirection off the ceiling), Nicole Huggins with a couple digs, Becca Wolfinger with a one-handed diving save, Huggins then smashed a shot for 18-14 lead. The opponent tried to keep the score close, but kills by Averill and Shreve (off awesome Emilie Kapp sets), a hustling back-court save by Huggins, and block by Wolfinger grew the lead to 24-18. Diggins then executed a perfect short-lob serve which SRV had no chance to return, with Amador claiming the first set 25-18.

With a case of Deja-vu, SRV again took the first two points, and then Amador tied the score at 3-3 (this time with a perfectly placed dink by Cilk). Wolfinger then served 4 straight points to increase the lead to 7-3. After a SRV point, behind some placed sets by Carino, Zollars served (including two aces) to grow the lead at 11-5. But then the SRV Server got on a hot streak for 9 straight points, as the Lady Dons fell behind 11-14. Kapp then scored a point, and Meghan Burnett served four straight points (including 2 hard aces), with Amador tying the score at 15-15. The Lady Dons reclaimed the lead on a Burnett-Kapp-kill combination (after a diving Butler dig to start the rally), climbing to a 18-15 lead behind Woo serving. Amador then got on a roll behind a Butler back-court save, Averill-Diggins-Burnett combo, Woo rejecting saves and two straight aces by Cilk, as the home team went on to win the set after a Zollars ace made the score 25-21, and take the Match.

Next up is a tough match against Livermore on Tuesday.
