What's NEW for the 2009-10 Season Jan Seaman Stortz - 10/5/2009 Welcome to the 2009-10 hockey season. We are excited about having 7 teams in each Tier and the addition of new players to the league. We have at least 97 women playing in Tier II and more than I00 in Tier I. Many seasoned players in Tier II have stepped up to be mentors for the new skaters to the league and I have seen some great teamwork and mentoring in the first few games.
Our season started off with the new way of registering all online through USA Hockey. It really helped to save us time and hopefully made it easier for all of you. Feedback on your experience registering and what you would like to see changed is appreciated and we will pass comments on to USA hockey. We did have a few glitches at times but for the most part it seemed to go well. Many players looked to challenge their skills so two new teams formed in the Tier I section over the summer causing a growth from five teams to seven teams. The addition of RMG (Reed Moore Group) and Laughing Lotus (a move over from Tier II with quite of few of their players) has given the Tier I teams a chance to have some variety. Tier I still has All Creatures Veterinary from the Valley, ReMax - Mary Cox, Moose’s Tooth, Borealis, and Icy Hot. The Tier II group has the field of Champion’s Choice, Killer Blades, Rainproof (new sponsor), Jamocha Me Crazy, Play It Again, Eddie’s and Matanuska Telephone Association. If you happen to pop into any of our sponsors please thank them for supporting women’s hockey. We couldn’t keep the cost at what it is if not for the sponsors. Speaking of supporting them, we will try to rotate and spotlight our sponsors on the website. Check in often to see what specials are occurring. Play it Again already had a hockey night but will surely have other specials throughout the season.
Another change for the season is the addition of scorekeepers again. Please keep us up to date on how the refereeing and scorekeeping is going so that we can keep the games and league fun. Remember we couldn’t play games without the Refs and they are doing the best job they can. Also remember that we are all here to have fun and enjoy a common sport so play hard, play fair and have fun. This is our recreation and we all have jobs we need to be able to work at come the next day. We have asked the Refs to be a little tighter in calls in order to keep the league safe and fun. If you do ever feel that an issue needs to be addressed send us an email to the board address and we will be happy to look into it. We are also instituting a committee to review any discipline issues that may arise. It will consist of at least two board members and theTeam Reps. We hope that it will never be used but if we do it will give a better representation of the league and is similar to other organizations.
Our wonderful schedule was done by a contracted individual who has a great system to spread the wealth of late night games and a spread of nights. If you are a little heavy on Sunday nights this half you will be lighter the second half but overall the teams were evenly placed for times and nights. It is a very time consuming and juggling act to get our scarce goalies not overlapping if they are helping with two teams and to work in all the sheets of ice that we are given to the best advantage. Again we are always open to your comment and suggestions.
Enjoy the season and friendships you develop along the way. We look forward to a great season and exciting action.
