October 18, 2008 - The Arlington Venom, under coach Jawed Sanie and assistant Mo Tayari, have earned a return visit to the 2008 Virginia State Cup semi-finals match to be held in Richmond this Saturday, October 25th at 11:00am at Striker Park. The Venom will face Beach FC Fire Red in a rematch of last year’s semi-final.
The “Road to the Final Four” for the Venom included some very exciting matches that kept spectators on the edge of their seats through three fast-paced, competitive games. Venom defeated visiting teams FASA Elite (1-0), GSC TAP Celtic (3-2 in OT) and Roanoke Stars (2-0) to gain a berth in Saturday’s Semi-final match.
Hoping to move past the semi’s with a victory over Beach FC, the Venom would face the winner of the SYA Lions vs. McLean MPS Hurricanes semi final match. The SYA Lions have proven to be a formidable force on the pitch and the Hurricanes are two-time State Cup champions, so an epic clash is in the making for this year’s final which will be held on Sunday, October 26 at 9:30 at Striker Park in Richmond.
