NKU Star Anthony Teague Joins Girls Basketball Coaching Staff

          Bishop Brossart High School today announced the hiring of former Northern Kentucky University Men’s Basketball standout Anthony Teague as a women’s basketball varsity assistant coach for the 2009-2010 season.

            Anthony played for NKU during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to NKU he graduated from Dodge City Community College.

            “Coach Teague brings an outstanding background and great deal of experience at many high levels of basketball that will be a great asset to our program,” points out Bishop Brossart Head Coach Josh Grooms.

            Teague is originally from Cleveland, Ohio where he was a standout performer at Shaker Heights High School. There he received All-State Honors from 1999-2003 and was a McDonalds All American Game Nominee in 2003. In 2003 he was a Nike High School All-American, and Cleveland Plain Dealer All League Selection. He was a Lake Erie All-League selection in both 2002- and 2003. He averaged over 20 points per game  as a senior.

            He moved on to Dodge City Community College in Kansas where he was a KJCAA All Region Player in both 2004 and 2005 averaging 17.3 points and 4 rebounds per game. He shot 34.5% from 3 point range also and had a career high of 35 points against Labette Community College. He was elected Captain as a freshman. He was All-League and was a two time Associated Press Honorable Mention All Stater.

            Teague, after graduation moved on to the University of New Mexico where he played three games for the Lobos in 2005-06 scoring 10 points in a big 95-42 win over Ole Miss.

            He returned back to the Midwest and joined the NKU Norse to be closer to his home in Cleveland for the 2006-07 season and earned a reputation as a leader as well as outstanding shooter and scorer. He was elected Team Captain in 2007. Junior year Teague averaged 9.2 ppg  and shot 46.4% from the field. His senior season he had a career high of 17 against Indianapolis and started 18 games for the Norse averaging 10 points per game, hitting 41.2% from the floor and also drilled in 38.7% of his three point attempts earning a spot on the  Great Lakes Valley Conference All Tourney Team and the NCAA Division II All-Tourney Team. He helped lead NKU to two straight GLVC League Championships.

            “Anthony will be a great addition to your program. He distributed a lot of leadership and had many contributions to the success of our basketball program,” commented NKU Head Coach Dave Bezold.

            Teague has been a Head Coach and trainer at Stan Kimbrough basketball, Inc. He has worked with kids of all ages doing single and team workouts to enhance skill and gain condition. He Coached Kimbrough’s AAU team both high school men and women. AT the Silver Lake Recreation Center he also taught the Basketball Session for eight weeks and taught rules and fundamentals to kids grades 3 thru 8.

            He has worked numerous Basketball Camps including the NKU men’s Basketball Camp., University of New Mexico Camp, Dodge City Community College Basketball Camp, the Raider Round Ball Camp, YMCA Sports Camp, and The Donnie McFarland Skills Camp to name a few.

            Teague has been active in many community outreach programs working with Brighton Center, the Newport Diabetes Walk, and spoke at the opening ceremony for the African American Achievement Awards.

            “We are very pleased to have a fine gentleman like Anthony Teague to join our high school community. He is greatly respected and admired by all who know him since arriving at NKU,” adds Bishop Brossart Athletic Director Mel Webster.

Basketball Camp Successful

       The annual Bishop Brossart Girls Basketball Camp got a late start in 2009 due to the late hiring of new Head Coach Josh Grooms but it was a fun and successful time for all the future Lady 'Stangs as they got to meet the players and coaches and spend a special four day learning session on the game of basketball. Here are some sights and pictures from the camp. Hope to see future campers in 2010.
