Lady 'Stangs Spank Lloyd

       The Lady ‘Stangs varsity volleyball and junior varsity volleyball teams rolled into Erlanger Tuesday night and both came home with victories over the Lady Juggernauts of Lloyd. Lloyd earlier this season had knocked off Highlands.

      The varsity won 25-17, 25-19 led by Felcity Britt’s 11 kills and Molly Williams 9 assists and 4 kills. Anna Dykes had 3 aces, and Chelsea Verst had 9 digs. They are now 12-8.

      The junior varsity took care of business 21-16, 21-19, Danielle Bryan had 5 kills, Emily Holtz 4 and Emily Greis 4 to lead the jv. Greis also added 4 assists while Bryan recorded 7 digs. Allie Flaugher recorded 7 assists while Leah Neises had 10 digs and Morgan Dunay had 7.

Lady 'Stangs Win State Bronze Title

     The Bishop Brossart Lady ‘Stangs (11-6) saved the best for last and at the end of a 14 and a half hour marathon day of volleyball featuring both highs and lows they won the Bronze Division of the Touchstone Energy All “A” State Volleyball Tournament in Richmond, Kentucky. It was a great showing.


The Champs
   
They started the day (early at 7:30 AM) with a touch Whitefield Academy team from Louisville and had a great chance of winning both games. They led in the first 12-7 and the second 9-4 but eventually lost 25-21 and 25-14. Later in pool play the managed to rebound and edge Middlesboro 25-18, 23-25, and 21-15. They would finish pool play falling to Caldwell County 25-20 in a game much closer and then 25-10.

    That meant the Lady ‘Stangs would qualify for the Bronze Playoffs (there were only Gold and Bronze no Silver).

 
   
The Lady ‘Stangs were ready to play knocking off 8th Region Champion Carroll County 25-15, 25-19 and then rolled over Russell in the semifinals 25-9, 25-11to set the stage for a dramatic match with a very good Monroe County team in the Championship at 9:00 PM.The Tomkinsville, Kentucky school is at the very high end of All “A” Enrollments with 594 students and after one game it didn’t look good as Monroe took charge 25-15. But then Marie Heeb had first serve for game two.

  
   
The junior drilled the Lady Falcons for a 7-0 start and the Lady ‘Stangs followed with a great team effort backed by raucous Bishop Brossart fans and parents. Brossart own the second game 25-14 and might mo had swung there way. 17 Minutes later the Lady ‘Stangs won the third game 21-14. It was a good day.


   
Junior Felicity Britt pounded the floor with 59 kills to go along with 58 digs and 11 aces to earn Tournament MVP honors. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by Sophomore Molly Williams (81 assists, 24 kills and 37 digs), junior Marie Heeb (49 digs, 8 kills and 12 aces) and senior Rachel Bankemper (32 digs and 6 aces.

    It was team effort though as other contributed greatly. Senior lebero Chelsea Verst had 73 digs. Senior Anna Dykes had 19 kills, 12 blocks and 2 aces. Sophomore Meredith Harris had 6 kills and 3 blocks and  and sophomore Megan Herbst had 3 kills and 5 assists.

     Holy Cross of Louisville won the Gold Division.
