The New York Beers were founded in 2005 and consisted of a band of drunken misfits with names like Lazer, "Oh Shit", and Drunk. We had a great time and everyone enjoyed playing (somewhat) organized baseball. We had $12 iron-on t-shirts for jerseys (which are worth some real money if you can find one these days). By the middle of the season, the 8 AM games at 145th St. in Harlem had taken it's toll and put about half the team on the permanent DL. 2005 wasn't about winning the championship, it was purely about survival. By 2006, The Beers were a bit more stable, but still lacked that winning edge. It was a fun season and they were able to improve on the 2005 season. The 2007 season saw some key acquisitions and more improvement, but a .500 season still proved elusive. In 2008, The New York Beers sported a new attitude, new confidence, and the belief that they could win. The new attitude paid off and they ended up being one of the strongest teams down the stretch making what many considered an unlikely run for the playoffs. They ended up with a 17-15 regular season record (after starting the season 1-7) and made a statement in the playoffs by making it to the 2nd round where they lost to The Express in the final game in extra innings. What does the future hold for The NY Beers? Stay tuned...
