Welcome to the Home of Black Bear Youth Hockey!

Black Bear Youth Hockey was designed to make youth hockey in the Tampa Bay area accessible for families of all incomes.  Black Bear Youth Hockey is a "true" not for profit organization that is run by "true" volunteers and offers an alternative style and philosophy to teaching students the game of hockey.   We teach our students that learning and earning go hand and hand.  Our program helps serve as the foundation for the development of ownership, independence, leadership skills, good citizenship, and good sportsmanship.  Our program introduces opportunity, motivation, and direction for children and parents alike who desire more then just writing a check to make the grade.  We are here to help teach children that they can earn their own way, that goals are achievable, and that there are things greater than themselves that they can serve...

Please visit our TESTIMONIAL page to read comments sent to us on the positive influences that this program provides to our children....

BLACK BEARS ANNOUNCE "SCHOOL HOUSE HOCKEY."

School House Hockey is a brand new program developed by the creators of Black Bear Youth Hockey.  The coaches are the highest level attainable by USA Hockey and have over over sixty years of experience playing and coaching the game that we LOVE.

These will be hockey development classes for ALL ages and skill levels, (mini mite thru Midget). We will have one day time slots for home school families and currently one night slot for all comers.

"School House Hockey" during the night slot will consist of an hour and a half of skills and development every Monday evening from 8:15 to 9:45 pm for the low price of $20 per session.

Again, this is open to all ages  and skill levels.  We will divide by size/age to ensure that each group receives the most efficient and rewarding experience each and every week.

As the demand continues we will add more day time slots For the Home School Groups. Full equipment is required, if you have any questions email us at schoolhousehocke@aol.com or call Coach Chris at 727-804-0451

Ten things a TEAM MATE does...

When people join a team, they often get instructions about what is expected of them.  Too often though, those who give those instructions fail to provide for their new TEAM MATE that which they themselves request.  All a TEAM MATE need to do is list what they want from their teammates and then work to make sure they actually give those things first. Here is a common wish list for teammates:
  1. GIVE ME A CHANCE - Be someone who allows me to show you what I can do and don't rush to judgement.
  2. Talks to me - Be someone who is positive and goes out of the way to talk to me.
  3. Helps me - Be someone who practices and learns about the game and then helps me learn too.
  4. Encourages me - Be someone who always tells me to keep trying when something I do isn't working out.
  5. Congratulates me - Be someone who is the first person to congratulate me when I do something right.
  6. Sticks up for me - Be someone who I can count on when I'm challenged.
  7. Shows confidence - Be someone who is positive about my abilities.
  8. Never quits - Be someone who always works hard no matter the situation.
  9. Never pouts - Be someone who is always upbeat even if something doesn't go what seems to be the right way.
  10. Never boasts - Be someone who is thankful of other players and coaches for their help.
Being a good teammate takes work and thought. Players and coaches who make the effort will see the reward long past their time on the team.
