New Cobras Hope to Take next Step
10/15/2009
Lake Worth:  As the Cobras hope to build on last years regional appearance, they announce the 2009-2010 varsity team.  Their are 13 returning players on the squad this year, and they accounted for 30 of the 81 goals and 29 of 73 assists last season.  Hopefully the combination of returning players and new players will allow the Cobras to take another step forward towards first getting back to the finals, and then winning a district crown.

Six returning starters will highlight the roster: Midfield juniors Kim Bova, Natalie Mederos and forward, Katie Sweeney combined for 14 goals goals last year and 11 assists.  All three of those players will be huge factors on the offensive side of the ball, trying to replace Jamie Reeg and Katelyn Butler who accounted for 30 goals between the two of them.  Anchoring the for defensive line for the second year is Stephanie Peck, Jenny Peterson and Allison Northcutt.  Graduating was Megan Moore, which will be huge shoes to fill in the back line, but hopefully we have found a few good canidates.

Two returning players that will start the season injured were huge key's to last years success. Katie Richardson is hoping to return between the pipes, as last season she posted 12 shutouts and a 1.09 goals against average.  She will however miss some of the season as she recovers from leg surgery.  Last season's Rookie of the Year winner Stephanie Brajas will miss the entire year with an ACL tear.

The supporting cast returning players: Forwards Brie Barndollar, Melissa Rush, Roxy Szakacs, Verenith Rosario and midfielder Caitlin Jackson scored 10 goals and 8 assists.  All of these players had key roles in last season's success and will be counted on for even more this year.  Defender Leigh Robertson also returns to the field after missing all but 4 games last year with an injury.

Allow me to introduce the new faces that will help led Park Vista not only this season but they are the future.  Your 2009 rookies: Juniors L Indiviglio, Marjorie Castro, sophomore Samantha Sadler and Sarah Tuttle.  All of these players had very successful season on Junior Varsity last year, and hope to learn the system and find sometime on the field.  We also have three freshman made the squad.  Katelin Glass, Maya Pun and Tiffany Pepe.

The best part of the tryout results is not only the players that have been selected, but the players on the Junior Varsity team that will be working to make us stronger.  This has to be the best overall skill of players we have seen in a while and I expect to see players move up and make a huge impact.  Players such as freshmen Liana Shellard, Sophomores Kim Tamas, Michelle Miller, Juniors Christian Braunworth and Rawan Majdalawi.

"We have some really talented freshmen playing, gaining experience and hopefully moving up to varsity and making an impact.  This will probably be the best JV team we have ever had.  I know that these girls on JV can probably beat some of the local high school teams.  They are the future of Park Vista and we have to make sure to do the right thing within their development.  We will look for a lot of big things from these girls," said coach Jim Cappello.
