Pink Floyd Visits Blues Game Friday Night
Eric Nelson - 11/9/2008

The storied rock band Pink Floyd made a visit to the Madison Blues Hockey game Friday night against the Portage Lake Pioneers. Well not exactly , but their hit song with the line
" all in all its just another brick in the wall" was the theme for goalie Jared Detrick and he stacked his brick pads and held the Blues to only 3 goals en route to a 52 saves. The Blues pounded the former Michigan Tech goalie with shots from all angles, but he made saves with the pads, blocker, glove , stick, skates and even off his face mask at times but it was his ability to quickly cover the puck and not let a second shot or rebound come back was the key.
The Blues got the scoring going in the 2nd period as Cam Nelson rang the bell on a nice pass from Andy Cripps. The Portage Lake Pioneers fresh off a 7 hour ride from the U.P showed no sign of fatigue as they kept the pressure scoring anther goal and increasing the lead 3-1 with only a couple minutes left in the period. The Blues kept working had a 3 on 1 breakout and this time Kevin Thiesen chipped the puck in with a nice assist from vet. Chris "ole" Oleson.
The 3rd period was a blitz for the Blues creating quality shots and keeping the puck in the zone , but managed only 1 goal from Nolan "Papa" Baker with assists from Cripps and Hargas. The Pioneers got the empty net goal with 23 seconds left in the game, assuring them the victory.
