Blues Blow Up Bombers With Scoring Frenzy
Eric Nelson - 11/9/2008

The West Bend Bombers had prepared for their season opener against the Madison Blues for weeks. They had special promotions, radio coverage, newspaper adds, beer specials and a sell out crowd ready to watch the Bombers open up their new season. The one thing they forgot to do was to play hockey as the Madison Blues stole the show, scoring 11 goals and displaying why they are one of the best teams in the Great Lakes
Hockey League. The Blues got things started scoring 5 goals in the first period, 3 in the second and 3 more in the third. The lone goal the Bombers had was on a power play and the tally went to Scotty Holtz, the Bombers #1 player.
The Blues game plan was to shadow Holtz play solid defense and stretch the ice using their speed. The plan was executed to perfection and along the way the Bombers got frustrated and started taking penalties and making mistakes. This week at practice the Blues worked hard on their power play, and it payed off . " Our power play ran like a well oiled piece of machinery humming on all cylinders" said Blues head coach  Chris Walby relaxing with a cold one in his hand after the game.
The Bombers , who were coming off a loss Friday night up in Fondy lost their hockey minds in the third period , as the fights started to breakout. The hockey game turned into the gong show as the officials couldn’t contain the frustration and 4 skaters for each team ended up being tossed. " That’s not how we play hockey, we are not the instigators but if a guy takes a swing at you we are going to defend ourselves." said Blues GM PeteGoeser .
