Welcome to the home of the Central Texas Baseball League, Inc. The CTBL runs an independent, adult recreational baseball league in the Austin, TX area. The CTBL organized in 2003 as a Texas non-profit corporation and offers Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons for recreational baseball players age 18 and older. Our league plays 22 games in the Spring/Summer season, with most teams eligible for postseason play in either the Championship bracket or the Consolation Bracket. Our Fall season is about 10 games from September to November.
We just played our championship games at the Dell Diamond in August, home of the AAA Round Rock Express, affiliate of the Houston Astros. Eight teams played there this summer!
We organized as three equal 18+ divisions with two tiers (Championship and Consolation, both have games at Dell Diamond) for Spring/Summer 2009. Plans are in place to move teams towards forming as 18+ or 28+ this Fall, with age brackets to be fully implemented in Spring 2010 as separate 18+ and 28+ divisions.
What is the CTBL?
The Central Texas Baseball League incorporated in October 2003. The league originally formed because no one was offering adult baseball in the fall. Adult baseball includes recreational players age 18 to 40 and older, playing real hard ball on local fields. We play modified Major League Baseball rules, with independent batting and defensive lineups, free defensive substitution, wear steel spikes, steal bases (or get thrown out tryin'!), hit home runs, bunt, all that good stuff you don't get to do when you're playing slow-pitch softball. Most players have some high school experience and some have college or professional experience.
Most of our games are on Sundays, with a few night and Saturday games as well.
There will also be a Fall season running from September to early November.
Here is the league's growth in recent years:
Spring 2007: 6 teams
Summer 2007: 7 teams
Fall 2007: 10 teams
Spring 2008: 12 teams
Spring 2009: 15 teams
Fall 2009: 14 teams
